I don't know about the rest of you but the offerings are coming a little too fast for me. I'm going to have to decide what era I want to be in. I can't afford to model 1940-2000 time period with all the new stuff coming out. Maybe 1040-1970 or 1970-2000. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

If you stick to an era, your layout is more believeable and it is cheaper, since you don't have to have everything. My son and I are modeling contemporary, and what is currently running on CN and CP so it saves us some money and time trying to figure out whether to make a purchase or not.

Of course, like all modelling types, we occassionally cheat, but not that much anymore. Just trying to get believeable consists means you have to have a couple of similiar units if not more.

    Dear Santa!

Now I guess I can stop my occasional ponderings on how to kitbash one of these. I will say I appreciate the fact that they're coming out already decorated for LMX.

Could we hope to see a comfort cab version in Amtrak? Oh oh, gotta go, my wallet just bit me...

Woah, Atlas, slow down a bit! I'm just recovering from the GP38's I bought! This is great, I can't wait to see these this weekend. Good thing I stocked up on paint and decals, the ole Aztek and Badger are going to get a work out this winter :D

Budget budget budget. Wallet wallet wallet. If you cant seem to afford something etheir cut your expenses elsewhere or dont buy it. Its almost as if some people are surprised that locomotives are coming out every couple of monthes, and especially in time for the Christmas season.

Just something that gets me, not an attack on anyone, but it is a bit annoying.

Speaking of the LMX versions. Who leased these? I have checked my rosters and don't see any 8-40Bs listed as leased by any of the roads...

I believe the LMX units are actually B39-8s, but externally are virtually identical to B40-8s. These were leased to ATSF, and I think BNSF still holds the lease.

A little reference material regarding the LMX B39-8's:

Actually, the LMX units were originally leased by BN, and I believe their lease expired July 1, 2001 and they have been returned by BNSF to their owner (CIT Financial). There is some info being thrown around that these units may end up in the secondhand market, or they may just become part of CIT's short term lease fleet.

The LMX units were leased to BN and were acually B39-8's. They frequently ran between Chicago and Seattle. If your modeling a late 80's to 1997 BN or BNSF layout based on the Seattle to Chicago coridor these units are surely needed. After 97 I think BNSF changed there mantience base so they were running more down south.

I will order 1 CSX and 1 NS. Another easy Christmas present for the wife to buy. I order, she pays and wraps. Life is good. :D

To add to Kevin's info, the LMX units also frequented the Houston-Seattle BN lines in the late 80's and early 90's (and beyond). They were usually pulling intermodal and often were paired up with the B30-7A Cabless units as well as the occasional fuel tender. This is a great release from Atlas and I hope to get a couple from Santa myself!

These will fit in perfectly on my layout! The MOPAC always was big on B-B road power. Their last big purchases were the B30-7's. So it fits they would also purchase the 8-40B's. Can't wait to make a set of 4 in MOPAC blue with Screaming Eagles on the long hoods! Way to go Atlas!

No, it's excitement. I don't have a problem with people being excited about new diesels coming out- for those scrambling to find funds, good luck (or get on "Santa's" good side :D )
Personally, I'd like to see a couple in Frisco red & white (no, Frisco never owned any, but had they been around in the mid-1980s they would have, as SLSF was a GE pioneer). I'll have to send a request to the Financial Department for two undecorated B40s :D

    It's only a hobby.......
