Shame on Lifelike! Are they out of touch with the hobby? Atlas already has made a RS-11 and they will release it as a classic later this year. Nothing makes me more pissed than when 2 manufactures think they need to make the same model when there are so many others that haven't be produced yet. Do the people at Lifelike really think they could make the same amount of profit from the RS-11 as they could from a totally new model. I dont know what these idiots at Lifelike are thinking. With the success of the SW9/12, why dont they put their efforts toward a MP15 which is badly needed. [ 06 February 2002, 05:13: Message edited by: CNWFoamer ]
Gee this same post was posted on the Atlas forum but there it was by Scott Siebler. Scott, did you find a way to get back on trainboard?
It states in the 2002 Atlas catalog that the next two classic releases are the SD7/9 and RS-11. At the rate Atlas has been putting out new stuff we should see them sometime this year or early next year.
Well actually I will be able to purchase 2 lifelike for the price of 1 Atlas if they are similar to the quality of the GP20's then i'll be buying quite a few of these
All Alcos are popular, so if there is another RS11 on the way, that is good news. I would definitely want some more, so being abusive about a manufacturer producing one is uncalled for. Even if Atlas produce another run, there will not be enough, so the more models available, the better.
Scott The market will vote with its wallet. Since LL has not announced CNW, go here are drool over the 1:1 CNW 4243. http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/cnw/cnw4243ags.jpg And please keep your snide comments about manufacturers OFF the forum.
Anyone else notice he never admits he is Scott. And he is no longer a locomotive expert. [ 06 February 2002, 12:40: Message edited by: Ed Pinkley#2 ]
If you took that exact same LL RS-11, removed any traces of the LL name on it, and put it in a Kato box, doubled the price, I am sure he would be going on and on about how great it is. I think an advantage of the LL version over an Atlas will be availability, Atlas classics are usually limited runs with only 4-5 roadnames, while LL is "limited" as well, usually not much of a problem finding them. My experience is that you are only an expert if other people say you are, not if you say you are.
I at least wish that they release the C420 over here. Those combined with some MP15AC's and I could finally have some LIRR equipment!! Russ Hoffman Valley RR
I can understand where CNWFoamer is coming from. Duplication can be frustrating, especially when I takes so long to get some of the locos made that should be very popular, for example the SD40-2s. As for the suggestion that if you put a LL loco in a Kato box we would be fooled. Forget it. To steal a like from John Deere "Noting runs like a Kato". The LL would still be noisy, the Atlas would still not pull much as it would be to lightweight, and the flywheel action would not be there.
I thought I read somewhere (not sure where) that Atlas has since canned it's plans for the RS-11 classic re-run. If this is the case, Life-Like is fully justified in it's new release. Otherwise, it was never wrong to release the same loco, the just did it out of respect to each other and the consumers, who want different models.
If my memory serves me correctly Lifelike went head to head with Kato on the PA 1. Both released within weeks of each other. Never saw any official comparisons between them but the LifeLike did not do badly from what was able to read. Of course both suffered in sales because of the head to head competition. This announcement of the RS11 will test what Paul Graf has maintained about Atlas not doing a model that someone else has done because the other manufacturer could always re-release their product. Atlas has a year to get their RS11 back in production. But will they?
I have an idea. How about we all wait until the loco is actually released before making judgments on its performance?
jgeisert - I think you missed my point - My point was that Scott is rabid about anything Kato, and disparages any other brand. I was not suggesting that everyone would be fooled - although the differences between LL, Kato and Atlas are growing narrower by the day.
If Atlas has canned it's rerun of the RS11 maybe they turned around and sold the Dies to LifeLike (or maybe the factory that produces for Atlas did).
