Just wondering if there are any other New Haven railfans/modelers here?

Welcome to TB Shoreliner! I am more a railfan of the NH and I love the historical aspects of it.
I hope that you enjoy your stay here!

    Happy railroading!

Thanks for the welcome Russ. It's always great to meet another New Haven fan.
Have you ever gotten any pics of the units the the State of Conn. repainted in NH colors?

    Hi, Shorliner, welcome aboard.

Count me as a New Haven rail fan. I can also be found at the Danbury Railway Museum two Wednesdays a month, and, as Russ knows, by special arrangement at other times. The DRM is rooted in an NH heritage.

I believe Russ does have pix of the CDOT FL-9s. I have many, as well.

My pics aren't as good as Peirce's but I will post them later. I have a shot of myself, Peirce and JohnnyTrains (also a NH fan) next to one of the FL9's.

Shoreliner, what was your favorite locomotive to wear NH paint? Mine...EH-44 and the current GeePs that ConnDOT has repainted.

Hi Peirce, nice to meet you too. Some day I'd like to come and visit you at the museum. (my kinda place!) Sounds like you guys have good NH representation here!

Russ, that's a tough question to answer.....when you love 'em all..... :D

I think my all time favorite would be the I-5 class with script lettering. They were pure beauty in motion!

But from a more practical side, the FL9 has to win period. It was a brilliant concept.....both diesel and 3rd rail, plus both passenger and freight........excellent utilization and versatility.

I could go on and on, but for fear of boring everyone [IMG] , better not.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes.

I will let you judge for yourself whether or not I am a better photographer than Russ. In my opinion, he is darn good.

Both of us are represented on Trainboard's image site, along with a lot of other excellent photographers. Just click on the orange ball at the top of this page. Look for Russell Hoffmann and Peirce Behrendt in the album list. You may want to use this Trainboard feature yourself.

The "home base" for my pictures, trains and otherwise is here:

Both those shots by Russ were taken at the DRM.

Here is something else to tempt you to visit the museum. This is the New Haven RDC-1, number 32, now restored and operational.

Glad to see that you guys got that operational again! When we were there the last time the interior was being restored and they were welding some stuff on the outside. I can't wait for some of this snow to melt and get back up there!

Yup !.....sure looks like 3 NH fans to me!

Thanks guys for those great photos. Makes the NH come alive once again. Someday hopefully, I'll get my pic taken in front of that unit too. Maybe even be able to cruise up to New London on it. Wouldn't that be a kick! Close you eyes on board and imagine you're back in the '60s.

Yes Peirce, that is an additional inducement to visit the museum. Already thinking about when we could do that. Soon, I hope.

Thanks wabash for the gif. Hope it works.

Russ, don't you think the New Haven should have it's own forum?

    Thanks again NH fans !

I don't know about it's own forum but definately worth keeping a running thread going!

There are other NH fans on this board too. Hopefully they will ring in sooner or later!

I doubt if we will see #32 running to New London anytime in the forseeable future. That would be nice, though. 32's domain was largely the Danbury branch and sometimes a run on the Brewster line. Now it is not certified to go outside the DRM's yard gate. It will probably be used for some of our yard rides starting in April, however.

OK, now that little problem is fixed, so it's back to NH talk.

So Peirce, does that mean the museum will be offering rides on #32 within their area? How big is the area available? Also is there a schedule published yet?

Russ, are certain of the ConnDOT locomotives assigned on a regular basis to certain trains, or are they assigned in a random manner based on maintenance schedules etc? In planning a trip to Danbury and New Haven, it would be great to be able to get in as many rides as possible.

Thanks again to you both for those great pics. They really made my day!

Yard rides will be every Saturday, beginning in April The equipment used will usually be NH caboose C-627 (Class NE-5), one of our former Reading coaches (built in 1922), and pulled by our Alco RS-1, NH 0673. (0673 was never owned by NHRR, but was assigned that number by the DRM because our yard was home for several RS-1s when it was New Haven's Danbury yard.)

We may also use RDC number 32 at the same time for seperate rides.

The schedule may vary, but usually will be once on hour on average on light days; more frequently when there is the demand. The ride takes about 20 minutes.

    What happened to Russ?
I was in hopes that he would post a picture of his favorite EH44, if he has one available.

Hi Bill! I am still here though I have been very busy the last week or so with all this snow. By the time I get home at night from delivering mail I have been too tired to do anything. Sadly I do not have any pics of my own of EH44s but here is a link to a great picture site (if you have never seen this). http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/
They should have some good NH shots to suit your fancy ;)

    Happy Railroading!
