Details. Many parts, almost all of them are TINY. Good tweezers, and (for me) magnification is a must. As is a ton of patience! The paint job was the easiest part.
OKay good, i am getting thru the detail and was worried. So once I get past this I am smooth sailing!
After I finish 3 F40's in Via Rail for a customer.... I dunno, I have started my layout... Benchwork open grid is up..... Maybe in the summer. Those things took a ton of time... Grant does some really impressive work, no doubt!:teeth:
Just don't install all the grabs, or handrail ends yet. That simplifies painting a lot. Install the fan shrouds, the dynamic brake grilles, the radiator parts (but not the fans themselves) and anything that will not be bothered by masking. Waiting till last to install these eliminated breakage by a lot. One tip is to put a slight Z-bend into the stirrup steps, and install them as usual. This allows more room for the trucks to swing.
I haven't been outta town in weeks. No, we got a slight dusting left over, after yesterday's brutal wind. We had 8-10" about New Year's Eve or so, and it al melted withn a few days. I wish I could hit Mullan or Marias, but both would be wicked scary after the storms that hit. Not to say I wouldn't chain up, and pack the truck up for a week!
Is the Kato Mid-production SD40-2 chassis usable for this F45 from Grant? I do have the older SD45/40 chassis, but the instructions say "SD40-2" should be used?? I'm a bit confused ... (not hard too to do at my age though ... :shade: )
If you want DCC get a new sd40 chassis. I f yu want DC get an older sd 40 or a Sd45 chassis as the will be cheaper.
The older SD40/45 mechs will also pull slightly better, as they are heavier than the newer mechs. Maybe this winter will see my GN units to completion...
