How about some new passenger trucks? Newest one dates to the 1970s. The "one size fits all" concept aint workin! Otherwise, coal road modelers could use some "runner packs" (hint)
Yay! the Comet II/Horizon car is on their research list. Just wait till they see the real-life fantacy schemes like this: I think the Bay window cab is a sure bet. It would be nice if it was done modularly like the Walthers one. That would give the MTL model several bay options to fit multiple roads. If they went with etched roofwalks, they could also make roofwalks optional; very important to NYC/PC/EL/Sou/CR roads. I would like a few, even though I have rebuilt a few Walthers and ER bays.
Carbon Black Cars Ok...you guys have my interest...there was an article in a mag just within the past few months on the Carbon Cars...can't locate it on Trains.com. Anyone know what mag and date that was in? I'm liking this a lot. Also, some of the suggestions I've seen on this thread are already working their way into production.. and that's all I can say!! Cheers Joe
Ouch! Who let the "one-poster" in the game? :zip: I beg to differ about which is the "best" carbon black car to do. The Thrall 4727 and 5750 cars (far more distinctive looking than the 3000's) are almost identical externally, and span from the early 60's to modern day. Count the roads mentioned, and add about twice that many due to mergers, differing schemes, etc.

Bay window caboose Troop sleepers converted into baggage/express cars (many roads) Heavyweight baggage and RPO cars (many roads, long period of use) Heavyweight Pullman sleepers (many roads, many variations) NYC scale test car
Another idea, how about the new coil steel car that CP uses, I am sure other roads also have them but i see 20 or 30 of them each day.
Thanks Joe! Hopefully some of these suggestions become reality - particularly on the cars you currently offer. Thanks for the opportunity too ;-)
Bay Window Caboose (modular, both endwalks and bays) Northeastern Caboose (modular ends, the LL one has alot to be desired) Heavyweight Pass. Cars My only gripe is the price. A well engineered and painted caboose should go for a retail of about $15 bones. A heavyweight passenger car about $25 bones retail.
modern ideas Here are some ideas. and a new three bay hopper. The building of it is way different from the old three bays. some better shots of these soon. Hope this helps.
Wow. Great thread. I wish I would have jumped in earlier. At the risk of sounding redundant: a) heavyweights b) bay window cabeese (CGW, C&NW variety) c) TOFC sets complete with two trailers (I'm thinking of more sets like the GN sets sold through N Scale Collector a few years back. Those looked great but the "special" price just didn't work for me.)
I have already put in my votes, and this one isn't really serios, BUT, This is not in my era, but I think it would be cool to see some of the 89' Jumbo Whale belly tankers like the classic 1st Gen Atlas ones that sell for buttloads on ebay. Would like to see how some of the high end manufacturers do them.
