I really like this locomotive, did I miss the completed project or do I need to look in a different thread?
No, you haven't missed anything. That post represents the current state of the project. I'll post updates here as I hit other milestones. You can see the teaser post on the initial designs over in the 3D forum: https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/fantasy-loco-design-2-in-progress.157292/ Cheers -Mike
The following are the remainder of the interior machinery parts for the sawmill. These items are really small and some detail is there but basically too small to paint or see. For instance the pillow blocks for the rollers and the belts between the rollers print but are very hard to actually see even up close. The printers now are better at detail than what our eyes can see, at least mine. . It took me a while watching videos to see how they handle slabs that are way too long to transfer over to the edger saw. The slabs move down the rollers towards the timber cutoff saw until the end of the slab is even with the end of the transfer table over to the edger rollers and saw. A chain saw comes up out of a slot and cuts the slab into two pieces. The one piece next to the transfer table is transferred over to the edger by the four chains that you can see above. Then the rollers down towards the timber cutoff saw reverse and bring the other half of the slab back up along side the transfer table. Then the chains move that slab over to the edger rollers and it moves through the edger which cuts it to width. Got an Athearn Challenger on the programming track. I was sent this by my sister as a anti-depression gift (do to my wife's passing) I will say that the model looked good, but not a fan of the Soundtrax decoders...
David, Is it the Sound that you do not like on the Soundtraxx decoder or the Motor Control? - Tonkphilip[ [QUOTE="DCESharkman, ... I will say that the model looked good, but not a fan of the Soundtrax decoders...[/QUOTE]
Next N Scale paint project, only all I have is a KATO SD-90/43. Oh well : It will look good, a pretty simple scheme.
Looks to me to be something like a GE? Or is that just the paint scheme that you plan on putting on an SD-90?
Arrived today 5 Fox Valley locomotives from a member here on Trainboard, and ordered the decoders to go in them. These are the easiest locomotive to install decoders in.
Russell, I am not sure I understand your comment, so : The 1:1 units are GE ET44AC Tier 4 GEVOs. Scale Trains did a release or has one coming up in N scale BUT I can no longer spend that kind of money on a loco. My comment was that the only large modern diesel that I have is a KATO SD-90/43, so I shall paint mine in that color scheme. I have decals on the way from Circus City Decals, If I do a good job it should be quite acceptable, IMHO.
You answered my question just fine. Are the photos you posted above showing the Scale Trains GEVO? Whatever, it should look good on an SD-90-43.
Showcase Miniatures offers some nice crossing signals. I managed to assemble and install mine on the D&RGW Secret Places Sub. I tested all the LEDs before installing, but that electrical work to connect them is yet to come. Per my prototype, guardrails made of old rails.
Very nice Hemi! Question? My signals that I built had round bases, yours looks to have square bases. Were those included or did you modify yours?
Thank you! The round bases weren't a good match for my prototype; these, which were 3D printed in resin for a different project, were closer, if not perfect. I saw the breakaway base option, but passed on it. This is what I used. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4728525
Russell, To answer your question, no those images were from an Intermountain Railway Pre -production HO scale unit shot on the BNSF Fall River Div. layout back in 2018. Following are 2 images of both 1:1 units enroute from Erie to Farmington : They are in a Westbound NS train and this was shot in Ohio : Here is #2026 up a little closer : These two units were actually GE Demonstrators, reconditioned, painted in Erie.
More like "What's on your dining room table"... Next two pieces of Very Simple Backdrop for the Wilmington. This is White EVA Foam Sheet, 24 x 40 inches split longways to yield two 12 x 40 inch pieces. Painted with Top Notch brand Light Blue Matte acrylic. This should get me most of the way down the next large section of the layout, which has been stalled for... eh, too long. When dry, these will be mounted with Heavy Duty Double Sided tape. I have four more pieces of this -- which unfortunately have been partially "processed" by one or both of the cats (note chew holes in the bottom right of the photo) but I believe can mostly be hidden at the bottom. I also have three more pints of the same shade of paint. All of this came from Joann's, which is an issue now that they are closing all of their stores (an update from just today). I think I have enough to finish what's in place now with some extra for the next section... whenever that happens...
A few shots of my fantasy loco with a mocked up chassis. Truck and fuel tank designs reserve the right for re-design as these were models I took off my CF7. I do want Blomberg trucks but for this model I may tweak the design, as this is a fantasy loco after all is said and done. It's starting to come together and looking really cool! I'm going to pull that rear truck back just a hair to better fill out the space. Cheers -Mike
30 locomotives decodered and programmed. These are the last decoders I will install. Just do not have the time or the inclination to do any more. From now on I will be taking the financial hit of only ordering locomotives with factory installed decoders. Or, send what locomotives I still have no decoder out for installations. Mostly Atlas which are my least favorite locomotives to install decoder.
