At it again to satisfy my adhd tendencies by drafting a loco that never existed outside of a concept picture. Question is, do you know what it is? Previous fantasy loco: CF7 - "Super 42" I've been working on another loco but that one may never see the light of day as it is very...ugly. Cheers -Mike
That'd be cool, and talked about at the next running!! Give it an early 70's "red nose"! I've always wanted an SD30-just about the only EMD loco never made with 6 axles! Maybe some GN versions, OR Milwaukee Road versions with old GE 6 axles like the U25C's had??
Ok still tinkering with this. I did a couple prints this week and it looks really cool! Holding it reminded me of the early TGV which I would not be surprised if that was a partial inspiration of this design from the 70s. Kind of a cross between the TGV 001 and maybe the 0 series Shinkansen. One thing holding the print in hand I nit picked a couple things I didn't like - primarily the windshields. I pulled the center roofline of the windshields forward which seems more natural to me. I'll be printing this in a few minutes. Old design to the rear, modification up front: I originally planned to use a GP drive for power but unfortunately it makes the shell ride too high so I'll have to think of something else. Still no guesses on what this is? I can only find one picture of the concept online so that's probably the only image of it. Cheers -Mike
It almost looks like an F7 rebuild with the fuel tanks and possibly a cross of ALCO/Bloomberg truck design... Under EMD in the 1970s, and based off models of that time, an EMD F38PHS. Though there was an EMD concept I remember being like AMT or something like that. If we really want to get creative; MK was just starting its rebuild practices in the 70s, as it is a MK F7M-P!
Looks fantastic. I have no idea what it is but it looks kinda like it's grandparents might have been the Disney Monorail. Having said that, I was at the train show in Sacramento Saturday and a vendor had a large display set up of the Disney Monorail. Looked like maybe HO scale but not sure. These looked like original stock from the 60's or so and they were selling sets and pieces.
I believe the Disney monorail was modeled after the GM Aerotrain from the 50s. I had an HO model made by Varney when I was trying to build an HO layout. I have a Con-Cor N scale Aerotrain in a box in the storage locker, (along with all the rest of my N scale stuff) waiting for the time when I hopefully get to build another layout. It's a very nice set, but doesn't run well at all. Derailed a lot. a lot of the wheels were out of gauge which may have had something to do with that.
I've got the N-scale Aerotrain and have the same problem. As best I can tell, it's caused by flashing on the "diaphragms" rubbing against the car bodies, pushing them slightly to the side and causing them to not want to run squarely behind each other. One of these days I'm going to disassemble mine and clean up the diaphragms and see if that helps, it just hasn't been at the top of my list.
Been a while since I have come back to this thread. I too have an n scale Aerotrain and it runs great. I initially had some issues as you mention but found mine were due to the magnetic coupling of the cars. Fussing a little to get the alignment correct solved the problem. I added an extra car and DCC and on my Unitrack it performs very well.
