That was the idea - 1890's vintage 2-8-0 working around the 30's or 40's. I might do a little filing on the oil headlamps to make them look slightly more modern and get a generator to stick on the boiler in front of the cab. And I'm still figuring how to make the front pilot not look like it's sticking out it's tongue with that front coupler.

If my old eyes are not deceiving me those are couplers that have to be assembled since I think I see the metal U piece to the coupler. MT makes a very short shank version of the same coupler if that is not what you are using. They come in long, medium, and short shank. The short shank version might solve the issue for you. Also maybe a Z scale coupler if the box clears the pilot wheel travel. Years ago MT used to make some steam pilot conversions that were used to replace the standard pilot with non working coupler. And some were in a freight pilot configuration. They usually came with an assembled MT already in them and a rear truck mounted MT to replace the tender. They used to have a set that converted an 0-6-0 to a 2-6-0. They are rare now but I did find some a few years ago.

That is just too cool for words. There's not a lot of old-time rolling stock in Z scale - what are you going to use?

This is one of those cases where the model has been on your workbench, unfinished, for too long. This SD40-2 had been painted going on about a year now and I finally got around to decaling it last night.

OK, anyone want to hazard a guess as to what I am trying to kitbash? It will probably be a little short but I can live with that.

I'm developing the 169' San Francisco Bay ferries built in the mid 1960s. I don't know if they are running today; if not, they were retired recently. Over the years, there were numerous alterations and additions. I'll leave these up to the modeler, as I prefer the sleek lines of the originals.

This has been a fun ship to develop, and is pretty easy to build, although the top deck is a little fiddly. This is the Z scale version. Obviously some trimming and adjusting still to do.

It s one of those double door Pennsylvania Express boxcars. I think some company just made a production of this model. Since you are kitbashing it they probably did!

Yup, it done got squashed between a rock and a hard place. Well actually between some gondolas filled with crushed rocks and the two water tenders that started to roll after they were not tied down very well. I want to model my UP excursion train with 844 to include it as that is how the train looked when I saw it.

Well, crud. Wouldn't you know it. I was about finished with the kit bashed shell and was looking for a floor I could easily modify to make it fit when I found an old 60 foot double door car in my junk box. I had totally forgot it was there. Had I known it was pretty close to what I was doing I probably would have just painted it yellow and gray and lived with the discrepancies. The doors and roof are all wrong but still.....

Russell, wouldn't you know it, that accident happened in Texas.

I too saw the excursion train in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in November 2011, with the tool car. I had to have it for my excursion train. here is my version. I put doors in the ends that do not show in photo. I am happy with it and it looks good in the consist ............................

Ooops, I found another angle image ...............

Trucks are not exactly right but I often apply the 5 foot rule for my stuff, especially those that will be run on show layouts. BTW, this is a Con-Cor car that has double plug doors. Closeys !

Wow, Carl. Looks good. Maybe I will make two. I figure the Microscale 60-35 decals for the Gas Turbines will have the right stuff.

Thanks Russell, that means a lot coming from you.

The decals came from : www.CircusDecals.com

    Circus City Decals & Graphics
    1441 Tillberry Dr.
    Baraboo, WI 53913

The stripes came from a Microscale decal set, do not remember the #.
