After numerous failed attempts at constructing an N Scale layout in my basement, I think I have finally arrived at something I can live with and enjoy for many years to come. A big thanks to fellow Atlas and Trainboard forum member ZiggySpaz for drawing up the idea. Last week, I was able to get track laid out, and buildings mocked up for the paper mill section on the branch line, which will be manned by Gettysburg & Northern #105 and #107. Here are some photos so far. http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...0Construction/
I would think that a lot of us could live with and enjoy a layout like yours for many years to come. Very nice.
Excellent layout and modeling Adam! You've definitely caught my attention! I hope you'll share more progress/photos as they come!
mu26, I'm really glad that the track seems to be going together just like the plan showed, and you're able to easily adjust where you want from flex track to sectional to re-use those pieces of track that you have. That layout really is going to give you years of enjoyment running CSX. It's great that you're diligently documenting your progress and sharing. If the new layout 'looks' as good as your previous one...it's going to a great layout! Smooth rails!
Just a quick update, I haven't been able to do much do to other things taking up my time. Here is a side shot of the paper mill area. I have my throttle hooked up, so at least I can run switching runs. And here is the main area of the layout. I have completed the benchwork, and installed the center dividers for backdrops. Hoping to finish the backdrops this weekend, and start laying out the track on this area as well.
I agree with everyone above--looks great! Looking forward to following your progress. I really like the deep curve on the branch line to the paper mill. Jamie
Got yard area cork down and backdrop materials attached to walls tonight. Hoping to get some more cork and perhaps some track down in the yard this weekend. Also going to get started on redoing my two Gettysburg engines, from ground up. Pics of layout to come over the weekend.
I was working at a breakneck speed today until I ran out of lefthand switches for my yard area. Good thing I have 10 rights ( DOH! ). I did get all or my backdrops installed, sans pictures. Most fascia also finished. Also moving some things around from the original plan as I find different places for different sites.
A shot looking towards downtown catching an SD40-2 go across the grade crossing. Here, #1148 awaits orders at the cement plant.
Good grief does a yard eat up your flex track! Just finished laying my yard and I have nothing left. [h=6]Local vandals are getting into the Halloween spirit early, hitting the first hopper in this grain train that was tied down in the yard for the night.[/h]
Not much progress to speak of last few months. I did get around to painting my fascia though. Working on the grade areas of my layout currently. For some reason, I am having issues building the grades and getting everything worked out in my head. Hope to have more progress to report in coming weeks.
