Where do the FURX units operate? are they just on CSX? I would love to be able to justify one on my California based model railroad :D

Alan, they are all on lease with CSX, but due to pool power, run-through agreements, and the payback of horsepower hours, they have been seen out west on numerous occasions, both on the BNSF and UP.

Thanks Corey, I just re-read the topic, and realised that my question had already been answered! Also Don Brown tells me that decals are available from Highball Graphics.

All I need now is another SD40-2 [IMG]

Actually, if you look at the pictures, you'll see they are SD40's that are rebuilt to SD40-2 (comparative) standards. I noticed that BLW is offering these in their Legacy Line of custom painted locos, however, they are using SD40-2's as their models, which is incorrect for all of the units I have seen.

Since we are in the CSX forum ;), CSX purchased some rebuilt SD40's (in the 84xx series) that are based on SD40 bodies.

Just to clear this up, MOST of them are SD40 carbodies. Units 3004, 3012, 3021 (actually was a wrecked t-motor, few feet longer) 3026 and 3048-3052 are SD40-2 carbodies. All the info you want on these units at http://members.fortunecity.com/harron/alstom/alstom.html

And yes, Jim at Highball Graphics makes these, he'll be making the whole series eventually.

    Corey,
Maybe I should send them the link to your site so that can get their models accurate... they definately did not do their research
A couple of neat variations on the FURX core SD40-2's: two were originally NS high hood units, while the other three were CP rebuilds and have the lettering moved foreward on the body to clear the extra "grills" on the side hood. (Corey, what were these for?? )
If you have not been to Corey's sight, I suggest that you visit it! Great pictures and information!

Especially since I just added a bunch of new pictures.

And Harold, I knew a couple were ex-N&W high hoods, a few of which then went to the CP and ran as "B" units (you actually have to click on those particulay units to get the notes).

As for the CP units (3050-3052) I don't know why the lettering was move forward for the grilles, but these units are generally kept out west on the CP system.
