Here's a good picture of one of the First Union lease units (SD40-2): Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Yep, that's them alright. Lately, 3051+ have been said to have the reporting marks GCRX (or CGRX, can't remember) but the same paint scheme. These units were rebuilt in Alsthom's shops in Canada. Most were rebuilt from SD40s (as Harold's pic is) so have SD40 carbodies, but some are rebuilt SD40-2s, so look like a "true" SD40-2 ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W
That is a VERY nice paint job But don't think I can justify one out west? ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Alan: That is a VERY nice paint job But don't think I can justify one out west? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Sure you can....they've made it out here to SoCal, on the SP(UP), mixed in with other CSX pool power. Dunno if they've ever managed to show up on the BNSF, though... ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
Yep, that's right. They have been seen in Dunsmuir (UP's Shasta Route) on the Trainorders.com Railcam (12:21 pm PST 9/24/00). CSX used a lot of UP and BNSF power over the previous winter and spring, so CSX has to pay back those HP hours, and rather than paying money, they send their units west for some time. Also, these units are on 3 year lease, who knows where they'll end up after that. If you want to model one, there currently are no decals out for the markings, and the colors don't match any current colors. Also, these units VERY RARELY run point on CSX rails (part of the lease agreement or something like that), so I doubt they will out west either. ------------------ Corey Lynch Pres - Rensselaer Model RR Society NEB&W RR http://www.rpi.edu/~lynchc/Railfanning/railfanning.htm - My Site http://www.union.rpi.edu/railroad/ - NEB&W
This guy has a tremendous site, that includes a page of links to pictures of leased units, by owner. Check it out at: http://www.jefflubchanskycpa.com/lease.html He has 6 great pics posted of the First Union units alone! Have no fear, the wonderful folks at Microscale are working on a "Furby" decal set as I type this....so get your airbrushes and those RPP or Kato SD40's ready.... ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by tunnel88: Interesting how these units have the yellow journal caps...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Sure is...and anyone else notice that the Canadian SD40 rebuilds KCS and BNSF recently received have the same feature? Must be a Canadian thing..... ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Alan: That is a VERY nice paint job But don't think I can justify one out west? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Sure you can! That is the great thing about leased power, it can logically show up anywhere! Pool power is also very appropriate, as is paying back owed "mileage" as someone has already pointed out. I thought it was interesting that Kato released an N scale SD40-2 in the EMD Leasing paint scheme. It acknowledges that leased power constitutes a substantial "road name" Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! Thanks fellas! I will have to see if I can fit one in All I need are those decals, some correct paint, and an SD40-2 to put them on! ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
SD40's are good power . Only 3000 HP but they load quick and if you get 3 of them in a consist , it's highball Cool Photo BTW
Once again Dave, resurrecting an old thread! For some more cool FURX/GCFX/CEFX pics you can try my website at http://members.fortunecity.com/harron/alstom/alstom.html
This one os for Corey and everyone following leased units: Has anyone been following the bank merger talks of late? First Union has bought Wachovia and plans to rename all branches to Wachovia, hence I offer this enhanced image Actually, Wachovia's colors are blue with red letters, so maybe I need to edit the picture some more Just kidding folks... I don't know if the Furby's will become Wachets Harold
Chessie...look familiar? Looks like this loco has seen some milage lately! I like your take on the merger I can appreciate it, I had an account with Wachovia when I was in college at ECU. [ 28 April 2001: Message edited by: Lefty ]
Lefty, That's too funny! Hard to believe that my "subject" has turned up all over the place. Good shot and thanks again for posting! Harold
In clarksburg I saw a mixed freight with engines (and direction) <<--CSX 7519,<<--CSX-exCR-7333, <<--GECX "Super 7" 3000.They were in elephant style. Most cars were loaded with concrete--hoppers--, paper --boxcars-- or chlorine --beer can tanker's or 33,000 gal tankers--.
