    From the description:

"This layout is the featured Layout of the Month on the Fifer Hobbies N scale web site. Check it out."

    I did. Doubts confirmed.

They're long on oversell. For example...

"What sets this layout apart is the fully automated electronic railroad traffic signal system, like that which might be found in a larger sophisticated basement layout."

All that for a single loop of single track, upon which you have to choose between having an extra locomotive or a place to drop and switch cars, as there's only one spur?

I wouldn't take it for that brass track either. Maybe the briefcase...

LOL From extreme oversell to extreme undersell. I can't be bothered to tell you what it is. Buy it anyway!

To be fair though, the seller says, "Please IGNORE the International Shipping Calculator as this item can be shipped airmail for £ 8.00 Worldwide to include the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe."

Less than 5-star communication from a less than knowledgeable seller:

Me: I am seeing 3 listings for your miniature chains: 1:200, 1:350 and 1:700. I would assume that they are different sizes, but ALL 3 of the descriptions in your listings say "21 links per inch." I am looking for small chain to use in N scale train modeling. Please tell me what the most links per inch chain you make and what its label designation is.
Them: Yes they are smaller in actual size
Me: I need to know how much smaller before I know if they would work for my application. How many links per inch are in your 1:700 chains?
    Them: 1" = 18 links
Me: That doesn't seem to make sense. Your listing says 1" = 21 links (for all 3 sizes, which you say is wrong because they are not all the same). What I want to know is the chain with the MOST links per inch. I would assume that is the 1:700 version, but we seem to not be communicating very well. So, please tell me the number of links per inch for all 3 of your chain sizes.
Them: [No response, BUT, they did change the 1:700 listing too read “18 links per inch” and left the other 2 at 21 links per inch!]

SO, I looked up the "TotalNavy" website, found their chains, and, low and behold, there were the "21 links per inch" descriptions for all 3 chains on the same page, one right after the other. And there was a free telephone number (800-845-1140 if somebody is interested) that was not on the picture of their items in the eBay listing. So, I called them and got a recording that they "weren't there right now." I am wondering if they are EVER there, mentally.

I will finish this story to keep anybody else from wasting time on this: I Googled "battlehship chain" and found this picture: https://www.flickr.com/photos/konabish/5226204605 . Guessing that the cell phone in that picture is about 6" long, I estimated a link of battleship chain to be about 28" long. That would come to 25 links per inch at the 1:700 scale. So, maybe 21 is the right number for that scale, and the other scales have less links per inch. But, I already have 27 and 40 links-per-inch chains from A-Line, so I am not interested in his any more.

Anybody know of finer chains than 40-links-per-inch?

Typical chains we use in real-life have something like 1.25" to 1.5" links, so they would scale to over 100-links-per-inch in N scale. I would be ecstatic to find 80-links-per-inch.

Just ran across this and felt I needed to post it.

Cotton belt never owned any SD-7's, SP never owned any SD-7's without dynamic brakes, but here's one lettered for Cotton Belt without dynamic brakes. But wait there's more. The ad even dares you to 'check it out'. Silver on ends look brush painted, hand rails are pointing in several different directions, and decals are...less than average (especially in the last picture). Check it out:

Almost old as time, parts are harder to come by than a bar of gold out of Ft. Knox. And where was it stored? Looks like in a flood plain or fire area in California or maybe New Jersey. I sent some free to a gentleman trying to refurbish his that were in far better shape than that.

He said they were hand painted to look old mmmm why would you do that...... I don't think that letting you 3yr old paint your engines is exactly weathering .........

Obviously never heard of weathering powders also I think you can see where the decal wasn't applied right.

Update on "Less than 5-star communication from a less than knowledgeable seller":

OK, today I did get an e-mail today from the seller, telling me he added a picture to the 1:700 chain listing showing all 3 chain sizes.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/17169235922...1&exe=11473&ext=27979&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext (3rd picture)

Apparently, all 3 chains have approximately the same number of links per inch, and differ mainly by the gauge of the wire used to make the links.

As best I could count links in the photo, NONE of the chains makes 21 links per inch. I looks like 18 might still be a stretch. Nothing close to the 21 in the vendor literature.

I will have to give credit to this vendor that he did actually try to answer my question on the third try. And the picture is worth whatever number of words the guy could not find to simply say that the chains all have about the same number of links per inch and differ in "scale" mainly by the thinkness of the link wire.

These links appear to scale to about 10" apiece in N scale. I don't know of any chains with links that big in railroading. Unless maybe used on a model of a ship in an N scale port.
