Some of the "ebay humor" are listings by 1JohnMichael--he has been selling there since 2003, has make over 2000 sales, currently has over 9000 items listed and does know how to put a decimal point in his listings (one is priced at $100.29).
How about this seller? All of their prices are WAAAAAAY overinflated! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-N-Sca...650962?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item43abe3f052
Wonder if they realize that you can buy 3 locos for the same price they want for one? Was tempted to tell them that they are insane for asking those prices, esp when you can go to Walthers or Atlas and order those locos for 1/3 what they want
I've done that in the past and it's basically a waste of time. They need to have something upstairs for it to soak into first. And like garethashenden said, they can ask whatever they want, but no one has to buy from them. Best thing to do is ignore them and go on looking! But it's always worth a snicker to look!
Not as funny as you may think. I have seen them go for much more. I know Kato announced a re-release, and that will deflate future prices back to normal.
Good Night Nurse - take a look at the feedback on that earlier post - this guy down below - everything he sold is like ridiculously overpriced maybe there are secret surprises included? It reminds me of how many ridiculously overpriced railroad magazine type books there are on Amazon (private sellers) I have seen layout design books that should sell for about $6, listed for over $100. Case in point - go to Amazon and search for 'N Gauge Layouts' there is one there - 'N Scale Railroad That Grows' new for only $524.07 - and the search is full of stuff like that - who buys this stuff????????????? - I guess they laugh all the way to the bank
This seems kind of high. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gloor-Craft...379101?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item20c124f89d
Yeah - $18 seems to me to be only a price reached after attracting two fierce bidders, from a start price of maybe $3. Those listers of the super high prices are paying premium listing fees, maybe w/o knowing it. Also now more surprises await many on the 'bay, as they (bay/pal) now require Taxpayer ID #, and reporting one's income, which is another reason why I got out of selling my extra stuff on the ebay.
I've built thirty some of these cars. Most of them I got in the mid 90's for $1.00 per three car kit. When I would go to the train shows at Allentown, The Civic Center and Timonium I would find them in vendors junk boxes where anything was $1.00. I'm glad I snatched up every one I found. I still have a few more unbuilt kits.
Okay - dragging this one up again - I ran across this item today - my first impression was 'good luck, hope you can do it'. I am sure the collection is worthwhile, but I really dont believe that very many train people will bid a $500 start bid, and $50 shipping is rough also. Better to just do it as a 30 day non-auction listing with a 'make offer' choice. Also, my one advice to any train sellers, especially when you try to sell a collection type thing - ditch the Power Packs. Most buyers dont want them, and they can add 5 to 10 pounds of unwanted weight to the shipping. Better to list them separately and put em in a flat rate box to ship. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-scale-lot...743830?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1c22e87496
That and I'd split the auction up if I was them...I was looking at some of the cars and while interesting, I have no need for the Pepsi collection. So depending who buys, they may have to turn around and resell some of the items to recoup some of their investment
Well now its sold at the $500, interesting since the BuyItNow was $650. One has to be a speculator, as the pictures were so out of focus, it was very hard to determine what was engine brand names, etc. I did see a similar Postage Set went for $120, so that could have been an incentive to a speculator or business buyer.
I always get a chuckle everytime I see one of these pop up on Ebay. Yes they are N scale, but they aren't even made to be run on a layout. These were built for a Readers Digest giveaway promotional gift. I know because my Grandma gave me all the ones she got with her subscription. http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-TRAIN-SOU...046344?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item35b5f5b888 I saw the engine one time bring over $50!
These things are rough. My club has been given a few of these (and I thank the donors when they do so) which we have here and there as scenery. The trucks do not pivot and the couplers aren't even working Rapidos. I cannot figure out why these were ever made and why Reader's Digest readers would have ever wanted fake N scale Southern Pacific items.
Ummmm- these look like those dumb things called by name of 'High Speed Trains' if so I wonder how many prospective buyers are aware that they are a push toy?
I don't know if this is humorous (bit pricey for an older LL product) or not, but I bought a Life Like BL2 for $49.99 + shipping because it looked "neat" and it was rated an "A" by Spookshow Mark. http://www.ebay.com/itm/18079794739...47399&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1 According to seller, this is the second version with shell mounted couplers.
Well - I agree with you about pricey, but its new, and a neat looking loco. Part of the fun! Any way - now below is a whale of a price for a stinking paint job, to me anyways. http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-LIFE-LIKE...=180797947399&ps=63&clkid=5827774539822105949
