Got the roadbed realigned and turnouts positioned for the latest former TimeSaver portion. Waiting on Xuron rail nippers to arrive tomorrow to put track down.
Okay, track laid but needs to be cleaned (some sat for 15 years in an unheated garage) and turnout controls added before testing.
Two months have gone by. After fruitless attempts to get my 5'x5' section of old layout from my son's to our house, I cut about 10" off one side yesterday (where the continuation of the yard was), and loaded the now two pieces into my van by myself so I would be assured of being able to get it out on my own when I got home. Last night my wife helped me get it onto the table, and today got it spliced back together, fastened down, and leveled. IMG_2037 Resized by Doorgunnerjgs posted Apr 14, 2019 at 7:45 PM
And finally, some more progress. Got my wood to lift the modified TimeSaver to the same height as the main board. Making the L-girders today. The first picture is of two pieces with glue applied waiting to be temporarily screwed together. I found it interesting that these 1x2s were exactly .75"x1.5" with sharp corners unlike the old ones. And then the 3 sets of L-girders waiting to dry and the rough cut legs.
Table fastened, leveled, and attached to large section! Yippee, progress. Still need to fix and/or replace track on large section and redesign the yard on the black section. Here is a short (not too good) video that has sound, but only the ticking of the wall clock! lol
Just wanted to show some pics on my now partially running layout. Will start re-laying track on main layout soon.
And now the first train to run on the connected tables. Can't go very far, but at least there is a little progress! No dialogue, sound only includes the clock ticking on the wall and rail sound.
Coming along nicely, John. Looks like this layout is going to provide you with hours of interesting operation.
I now can run on about 80% of the layout and am waiting on an order of flex track to complete the main portion of layout, including revised yard. In the meantime using some time to play around with photos. Here is a photo composite of a picture on the layout with one I took in Lamont, IA many years ago. Trying some things out and not totally happy but giving me some ideas to improve my techniques.
Hoo Rah! First complete circuit on the larger portion of layout after about 10 years of storage and fixing problems! (btw - Stopping the clock while doing videos seems to be a must!)
Added the new turnout that will be the main lead to the revised yard. Here are the before and after pics of the area. In the video above, this would be behind the ramp on the left side of the layout.
