 Received from a friend a short time ago:

"Just wanted to let you know that the History Channel will be
broadcasting on its Mega Movers program the move of the Morton, Washington depot. It will be televised on Tuesday May 9th at 10pm ET/PT."

    **********
Additional info from Boxcab E50's files: The depot was built by Milwaukee Road predecessor Tacoma Eastern Railroad. There were five of it's specific style= Alder, Eatonville, Elbe (ELL-bee), Mineral, Morton. Plus another, Kapowsin, (kuh-POW-zin), with a large, long attached freight house. They were a two story design. RR facilities and freight room on the lower floor. Agents family living quarters upstairs. Shingled siding. Shake roof. Morton is the sole survivor.

Yes. Shingles as siding. When these were built, about 95(?) years ago, the old growth forests were being logged. Cedar shakes were plentiful. The primary choice for roofing. And often also used for decorative purposes.

I should have been more specific- The siding was upper story only. The lower story was lap siding.

There is a Morton depot web site:

Thans Ken for the heads up! I will have to watch for the show. There are a lot of old buildings in this neck of the woods with cedar shake siding also.

I looked for it last night but it had a mega movers on with a crew moving a big boy in Nebraska. It was still interesting but was disappointed since I had cleared my calender to specifically watch the Morton depot getting moved.

That's strange! Even though the Big Boy show was interesting.... Keep checking your local listings. Hope it will air soon!

I found their discussion of how Morton's depot was constructed, to be very interesting.

Since this is a depot thread, this is likely the place for it...
Deer Lodge, MT's MILW depot is now a church, for those interested...

    Hemi-

At least it's preserved. How far west did you wander?

Just a little west of Garrison to the twin tunnels, and south to DL. I wasn't driving, but soon I will make a trip out there to get more shots.

Perhaps you'll stand on the Higgins Avenue bridge, as so many of us have done, and take a picture of Missoula depot. Take a peek under that bridge, and see if the insulating liners are still there....

The bridge over the UP in North Puyallup still has the insulator liners under it. And the old target style signals are still in use instead of the usuall UP standard style w/big hood.

    Kurt-

Do you have a picture of that bridge? How many times did I drive across that, and never looked!

Those signals are the ones installed when CTC was put in circa 1977.

Wonder if the church has a photo of the Milwaukee Road board of directors circa 1964 with Luke 23:34 quoted beneath it? Just a thought.

    Profound...
It nearly brings one to tears to read about the deliberate extinction.

I would like to make a trip to Missoula sometime soon; what's of MILW interest in MSLA besides the depot?

Hmmmm. I'm lost here. My 50 year old KJV for that verse is speaking of Pilate.......

In the case of 1970's the Milw management, they did know what they were doing. And did so very deliberately. :(
