My MR is based on the LAJ Ry which was owned in whole by Santa Fe Ry after 1972 & by controlling interest since 1922. It's now owned by BNSF but won't be modeling that. Have all the LAJ Switch Maps given to me by Charlie Slater. Have attached the Horn Lead Switch Map (building this first) & an aerial map done by Ken Johnson w/ lead info from Charlie who was a conductor their from 1970-1984. He then went to Santa Fe & retired from BNSF. He also wrote the best article on the LAJ in the October 2003 issue of the Warbonnet. The aerial map shows a portion of what's to be modeled when more of the LAJ is built. The Horn Lead Switch Map shows some of the industries to be modeled on the first module.
Here's a plan for the LAJ Horn Lead by Rob Chant. Rob has threads going in the Layout Design section of Railroad Line Forums
    www.railroad-line.com/

This is going to be the start of my LAJ layout. The layout will be built modular living in an apartment. So it has to be very portable & not attached in any way to anything! And there's no telling when I'll have to move again.

The layout will consist of 7-9 switch leads, one yard & the ATSF Malabar yard for staging. Thinking of stacking some leads elevator like to get more switching in a given area. Or could build on several levels w/ an elevator section between levels. Rob has several plan like that in his Railroad Line Forums threads.

Have taken some liberties w/ the industries on this leads to have a greater variety of cars. In fact till other modules are built may just change the industries on this layout.

The Horn Lead Plan shows the car types & numbers for each industry. Have enough cars & locos to be able to do the 40s thru early 90s eras. So General Mills can get boxcars early & then covered hoppers later. Same goes w/ boxcars - 40' early then 50' & 60' later. Could even swap out structures to use different kinds of cars. The structures would then be used on new modules to be built later on.

Very cool! I look forward to seeing it. I worked in the area for a while. Loved watching them go up and down those narrow alleyways.
