I'm out of the buying market but, yes, it would be great if Kato could lead the way in greater quality Geeps. A Gas turbine? Hmmm, Ya, that might be enough for me to buy, 'just one more'.
No, I knew what you were referring to, I just think it's an option that's not needed and I really like the better performance from the scale speed motor. Like I said who needs to run there trains faster than scale speeds?
But, but, but..... I feel the need, the need for.....
Not me. Since I use DCC for everything, I would gladly take a faster motor that I can slow down over a slower one I can't speed up.
I will gladly take the scale speed motor that has more low end torque, = much better low speed running. Example Kato SD40 with Scale Speed Motor = 100 smph, Kato SD40 with stock motor over 250 smph. The high speed Kato motor is like trying to run a standard shift car in high gear at 15 mph.
Besides the aforementioned Lima, Hamilton, and Baldwin products there is the missing E-5B. As far as speed on my locos I am extremely happy with the recently released S-4s performance of a nice slow steady speed no matter how far forward I slam the throttle. I expect passenger locos steam or diesel to be able to run 70 to 90 N scale MPH and the freight to stay at a more sedate 40 to 60 N scale MPH at full throttle. I haven't heard anything yet about Kato's FEF being a speed demon and the videos I have seen of it running at speed seem about right. So hopefully Kato got that part right in having good tractive effort and reasonable speeds. And that is what I would like to see in any future locomotives I might purchase.
Sorry, You called it a wish list. A DCC 4-4-0, Anything the US Navy really ran (on tracks), an old 4-4-2 that I saw around the time the Hiawathas were selling. A better than Bachmann Acela set, A good DCC 0-4-0 and 0-6-0. I should have the 4-4-0 soon as I am ready to pack up some locos to be customized. I am going to take a stab at putting DCC in a Mike soon too. I have to get used to working under a magnifier first
Oooooo-la-la... a Kato wish list thread.... 1) A proper NCL passenger consist... NOT... the smooth sides versions unless they are appropriate. 2) A proper Colorado Eagle passenger consist... NOT... the smooth sides versions unless they are appropriate. 3) For that Colorado Eagle consist... the proper ALCo PA with appropriate MoPac Colorado Eagle scheme. 4) Also for that Colorado Eagle consist... a proper EMD E8 with the appropriate MoPac Colorado Eagle scheme. 5) A new run of the Burlington EMD E5A & E5B units. 6) It's about time for Kato to consider doing EMD E6 & E7 A/B units... in ANY road name!!! 7) Where's the darned NW-2 in D&RGW tiger stripe scheme????!!!! THEN... do those SW-1's 8) Gas Turbine Electric... GTEL... 10000 HP.... I'd love to have one... or two... or more!!! 9) Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton... okay with me too. 10) Scale-speed motors... ??? uhhhh... sure as long as the 'quality' doesn't suffer. I'm not into the 'modern era' locomotives (that's 1980's to present for me)... so that's not on my wish list. I doubt we will see anything new in steam from Kato other than re-runs of the Mikado/GS-4/FEF.' We'll have to let Bachmann take that steam engine challenge... though... I would welcome any manufacturer do a really good quality Pacific and Hudson class model.
