GRRRRRRRRR....... Figures, I removed the Santa Fe from a C44-9w to re-decal it into a BNSF. Oh well, if I screw it up I can always buy instead........
Hi, Well these are good news. Does someone know if this retooled model will also have the prototypical 4 windows cab?
I was just looking at the picture of a real C44-9W as displayed on BLW (blwnscale.com) and the BNSF "swoosh logo" loc shows the four window version. The picture I see of the warbonnet version of BNSF is only a frontal view and I can't see the side window configuration. So I don't know at this time.:tb-mad:
Don't know for sure, but their announcement say "prototypically accurate detailing" and their BNSF AC4400 cab is correct for these units (sans a GPS dome): so they have the tooling... I'm pleased with this release. Next I hope they run some with GPS domes and number them in the 4000 series. I'd by 10 of them.
The 700 series have 4-windows cabs, and that's what has been announced. Assuming accurate details for the 700 series (cab windows, ditch lights above the walkways), these ought to be suitable for all BNSF dash nines except former ATSF (600 series) and those painted in the H1 scheme (960-1123). In other words, I'm a little baffled and miffed that this release does not include Heritage II paint schemes. I might be down for one of the warbonnets, but I defined my modeling era as pre-swoosh because I dislike it so much.
The new BNSF N C44-9W is now announced on Kato's website. But there is no reference for the prototypical 4-windows cab. "The Kato C44-9W Has been retooled from its original N scale incarnation; featuring seperately molded handrails, new walkways with crisper detailing, new undercarriage and fuel tank detailing, high mounted ditch lights and a prototypically more accurate anti-climber, molded MU hoses, illuminated numberboards, prototypical late type Hi-Ad trucks, and a new Kato straight shank knuckle coupler for a more prototypical appearance." Will Kato release this locomotive without paying attention to this important detail?
I'm pretty sure that text dates from the release of the SP/UP version last year. Since they released the AC4400 in both 3- and 4-window versions, I'd be very surprised if they didn't do the same here. (Gull wing cab too.)
FVM aren't perfect either - they're not doing the low numberboards on CSX or CP, so that's the GEVO is off my wish list for a while.
