I was hoping you didn't put everything back up just yet as I have a suggestion to make it blend more with the new remodeling. Do you have extra wall paint left? I would paint the peg board the same color as the wall so as to blend in more instead of "Hey, look at me, I'm a white peg board!" Yes, you'll have to take everything off again to paint. But it's only once.
You don't need a defense, this is not a Court Room. I need a wide photo please, so I can start with my Jethro counting, naught, naught, carry the one, naught... Alright, I am ready now, just post the Full picture, when you have time.
Those lights are incredible. My oversized 2 car garage had a single bulb for very inadequate illumination. I got a similar light (I think it’s from Bell and Howell) and it made a huge difference. Now you will be able to see whatever is in the closet. The pegboard looks great. It keeps things organized and easy to find. I like Mike’s suggestion. It looks like the pegboard matches the doors and trim and looks good in my opinion, however I think it would also look good painted the same color as the walls. I think it depends on what looks better to you.
I might have more confidence in the factory pegboard finish, to resist wear from the hooks and hung items when they swing back and forth as you access them. Plastic hook keepers will also keep metal hooks from swinging side-side, or lifting out, as you retrieve/replace items, thus marring the pegboard finish.
Well, you can put a gloss coat on it to protect the color layer. But then it might be too glossy, so you reach for the Dullcoat. After that you stand back and now you're thinking some weathering so you go to the art store to get some pan pastel powder. But in the end you just decal it. Oh wait, never mind...
Thanks for that Mike! Now I have to decide if I like it being white or want to go gray. The white does mesh well with the door frames as Joe mentioned so there is that. just what I needed, more decisions
In part of painting the room, all that peg board as mentioned before had to come down. I put the one section back up over the desk but have pretty much decided the rest won't go back up where it was. I took this shot during the repainting and you can see I had several pieces along with other stuff on the floor in the main closet to deal with What a mess, right. So when I got to this closet after the repaint, I moved the peg board out but wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. Obviously we now know the biggest section when up over the desk. Well, there is another big closet in the train room. Half of that big closet contains the hot water heater and the heat and air unit for he first floor and basement. The other half of the closet is where the previous owners kept spare paint that they had used around the house. My wife decided to do the same there. Looked like this. Normally things are better organized and nothing near the hot water heater but here I had just dug through the pints looking for a specific color. While I was organizing the paint, I realized that open stud back wall would be a perfect spot for the extra peg board. Moved out most of the stuff on the floor and put it up Much better! So, what does that have to do with trains other than being attached to the train room. Well, it quickly became the Kato wall before it could be claimed for something else Still some more Kato items to add and when I get back and can work on it more, going to add/redo the shelves to the left so all that can be better organized. That gets me up to date through this past Tuesday. Might be a couple of weeks for the next update due to work having me other places but I am happy with the progress on the redo and it has all pretty much gone better and quicker than expected!
I used to keep all my unitrack in their original packaging, but tired of opening and closing them up, now it's all jumbled up in those large scrapbooking boxes I get from Michael's Canada. I'm not entirely sure which way us better the box sure takes up less space and is mobile, but finding the right piece is difficult
I put the separate pieces in ziplock bags and then put the bags in the box. Then you just have to find the right bag.
My Unitrack inventory is currently spread out on a twin daybed in the train room/office/etc. But especially the short pieces are snapped together with like lengths, to help keep them somewhat organized. When I'm done with the track laying on my layout, all the leftovers will go back in storage boxes on the shelf in the closet, under the layout, etc. Maybe I'll segregate them in labeled ziploc bags... prolly not.
