The last wall is painted, the desk moved back, and the layout uncovered.

Got the 6 outlets replaced and cover plates installed on the two walls that were finished first. This is the style I went from

And this is the new style. I made a guest appearance in this one as a shadow :D

Not the amount of progress I was hoping for over the weekend but better than none.

FYI, it is now common practice to install switched outlets upside down (ground on top), so outlets are more easily identified as un/switched.

I've seen that and honestly, not a fan. Since it's not code required at this point, I'm being old fashion and installing the same orientation as they were.

What I've wondered is why that became "common" for outlets especially since most newer plugs have the one wider prong and with that wider prong, certain items that have it are hanging upside down from the way they are designed to be used and then they tend to tilt out away from the wall. To me that seems unsafe.

    Thoughts?

Of course if there is only one outlet at bedside, there are often items plugged into the outlet that we don't want unpowered when the lights are off (e.g. phone charger, alarm clock, table lamp, night-lite, etc.)

Between my CPAP, hearing aids, phone, (and formerly, my watch*) that are on my nightstand, plugged in to operate/recharge overnight, I have to travel with an outlet strip for all my accoutrements.

*I now use a Garmin smart watch which lasts days between recharging, and it can recharge while I take a shower in the morning. By wearing it at night, it monitors my sleep quality, heart stats, etc. which is both cool and helpful.

I thought you were only talking about the outlet covers, like going from Beige to White. You actually meant, replace the outlet :) Very cool. I have several of those surge protectors that are rectangular and they often lean out or fall out. Some have a center screw, but mine DO NOT! Add to them WiFi outlets, etc... and makes it even worse? They work but barely.

So, you were sort of right, I did go from the beige to white plugs and covers/wall plates. Just looks a lot cleaner and neater.

I also prefer white over beige. I agree, it looks cleaner and goes with just about any color walls if you ever decide change your colors.

Room is slowly coming back together.

Book case is the only thing I'm calling back to how it was

And the work bench is accessible and useable again but the parts storage above it may take a bit.

Still way too much to do..............

Thanks Joe! The wife gets a lot of credit on the painting part. :) I hope to get most of it all back in order over the weekend. A few things changing so I have to figure out what I'm going to do with some items. Last night I started taking items back out of the train closet. It was looking like this. Relocated the peg board panels to the shop until I figure out which ones if any will go back up. Now I can at least get to the trains so I can change out some cars on the layout as needed. Seems like stuff always comes down faster than it goes back up. Also, once I get the room back in order, I plan to replace the light in the closet and probably the outlets and light switch inside it so that everything in the room matches up.

I'm jealous. Your train room looks awesome!

After some water filled the bottom of a residential elevator shaft that's attached to the house (non operational), I had to clean out the bottom of the shaft of mould and quite a mess. Found out that there is hidden basement window behind the elevator shaft, and water has seeped through there into the basement (possibly for years). Next year I need to tear down flooring and walls in the basement and rebuild. Dunno what I'll do with the layout, while moveable to some extent I can't take it apart and get it up the stairs.

I just hope my renovations look as good as yours do!

I tried to count the items in your closet, and lost count at ONE Million items :) Holly cow you have some model train inventory. When does the hobby shop open for business :)

Well since in2tech was having issues counting, i figured better lighting might help. This is what was there, a simple 150 watt equivalent LED bulb
    20241004_190046.jpg

I kind of thought it was okay but I was at one of the big box warehouse clubs last week and found this.
    20241004_190253a.jpg

    It's killer bright
    20241004_191344a.jpg

Maybe now I can post another full closet pic and let in2tech start counting again :D but then, I'm not sure I want to know. In my defense, that crosses 40ish years of buying and trading up N scale items.

One of my favorite things about this train room was the peg board over my work bench. It was already on the wall along with several other sections of it around the room. It all came down for the big repaint project and man did this spot look clean but just so empty.
    20241006_082222.jpg

After some negotiation with the wife, she agreed that I can put back up anything I wanted to on the walls even though she thinks they look great. Well, this one for sure had to go back up. I put the frame back up first. It was actually about 1 foot lower before so the desk hid a bit of it so I rose it up to even with the top of the door frames.
    20241006_085547.jpg

I actually think it looks even better moved up and gave me more space even though it still goes a little below the back of the desk.
    20241006_092429.jpg

I rearranged the items I had on it, spread some things out and added some things that were not up before and just like that, it's full and just feels right again.

    I need a few more hooks :D

No matter how many hooks you have, you always need at least two more!
