Are coil wraps a thing? On the rare occasions I have seen exposed coils they have been banded steel. Regardless they look good.
That's an oustanding car. Your work on the stickers looks perfect to me @BNSF FAN . I'd get them on crooked for sure. Regarding the wraps, I wonder if it's used only on certain steel grades? Back in the day, coils were shipped in gons, one over each truck and open to the elements. I took this about 1975 late one day at Barrington, IL along the EJ&E. Note the old boxcar separating the heavy cars from the power. Probably done for crew safety and braking.
Panther Pink, TorRed, and Hemi Orange! That figure staring at a crushed Hemi 'Cuda ragtop would definitely be me!!!!! Only because less than a dozen were made in 1971 (3, if they were 4-speeds)...
The only time I've ever seen one wrapped was on a 53ft truck trailer. Usual on the rail, I see them exposed and banded but who knows what lurks below those coil hoods.
Thanks for the kind words sir. I can see getting a couple of packs of just the coils to make gondola loads and maybe a loaded flatbed. Extra cool EJ&E shot sir!
I was just wondering about those Scale Trains Coil cars .... Since they have stickers instead of decals does it mention anything about putting anything on them to make sure they don't come off. I'm guessing they don't but was just curious. Fantastic car by the way.
So, no instructions with them that I saw, of course I could have missed them. It was all pretty easy to figure out. I probably spent more time taking the pictures than I did assembling the parts and putting on the stickers. They are really nice cars. They run very well, they have a great level of detail and are price is comparative to or maybe a little better than other cars with similar levels of detail.
In another trip down the rabbit hole, I picked these new from M/T. Not really sure why other than they look cool. Here they are removed from the package. A look at each side give a view of the supports that need to be cut away. A couple of the sections might go in the scrap bin to hopefully find a use later. First one removed from the spurs. Was pretty easy and minimal clean up of the attach points Now both removed. Time to do some research on what color(s) these need to be painted.
If the container is thin walled, stick a bright SMD LED in it and make it glow after you paint it! Track power would be awesome but worst case you can use a coin battery.
Probably something that would travel on a depressed-center flat. I say make it look like the lid is coming off and an ominous, green glowing material oozing out. The LED idea would be great!!! In reality, these casks are made so strong that a train can wreck into it at 60 MPH and the cask itself (not the support structure) would hardly be scratched.
Yes-these came out at the same time as the latest run of MTL’s DODX depressed center flat cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hmmmm, that or maybe some glow in the dark paint? Then I could run them next to the glow in the dark radioactive DeLuxe Innovations 2 bay hoppers I have
What do those show up as on your credit card ????????????????? I hope you don't end up on a watch list or have difficulty boarding flights !!
Time to bore you all with another look at a car from Scale Trains. This time a 3 bay rib sided covered hopper. No assembly required, pre weathered and looking great right out of the box. Opening the box: Right out of the box, the patch for the reporting marks and number caught my eye. Nice stuff. Both sides of the car are almost if not exactly identical. Then a look at the two ends. Again, the patching for reporting marks and numbers is a nice touch. Then the top. the hatches and walkway are nice. And last, the bottom. Again a lot of nice detail. The trucks are screw mounted and have metal wheels. I have not been inclined to try yet but the couplers look like they would be an easy swap to M/T 1015s. If I was planning to do a lot of switching with this car, I might change them but for running purposes, I do like the Scale Trains couplers. All in all, a nice care and a cool addition to the roster. Doesn't hurt that I do like the Golden West Service paint scheme in general. Last spring I picked up a Rapido SP/Golden West Service box car they did in a very similar faded blue. I need to get a picture of both cars together because they make a cool looking set. Thanks for checking it out and hope you enjoyed the views of this car.
Having worked in Navy nuclear power, you all do realize what "MUTANT" means? Men Under The Almighty Nuclear Thumb!! Glow in the dark paint or a little light would make those loads really stand out! Add a one -eyed smily face, in green, and Voila! A fun load!
Just a couple of random cars that got metal wheels and M/T trucks and couplers last week. I really have a soft spot for these old helium cars and the Atlas covered hopper is a nice car as well.
I'm still kicking myself for not buying a few of the helium cars when they were new at my LHS, a long time ago...
Ummmmmmmm ................ is that a DeLorean on the tracks ???????????? If it is you could go back in time and get a helium car for BigJake while they were on sale new !!!!
