Thanks guys. I know that DeLorean is a bit out of scale but I claim its from following the pizza wagon a little too much like Alan noted. You are welcome. If I can get the inside to look even half as good as the ones you have done I'll be happy. I'm considering cheating a bit and using some textured mud and dirt paints I saw in the military modelers section of a gaming store recently along with some rust powders I have.
Well, since my last report, I haven't done a lot but lets pick up where we left off on the new pipe load. First, I need to find a new super glue to use that doesn't fog so much. For this, it doesn't matter I guess because it will be painted over> Here we see the 4 layers of pipe ready to go to the paint shop. There is some scrap limber in the gon that will used for be the braces between the pipes. This gon will get some weathering after I get the load complete and make sure it is good. Then the pipes got a first coat of paint. They will need a second coat Now we can move on to some other in process projects. I found another pack of boxcar loads! Here are two of the 3 victims for these loads. Loads attached and waiting for the glue to dry. I still have to dig out the car for the 3rd load. Next up was to break into this kit and see about getting it morning forward Here is a look at the parts. the hose is just wire. I'll probably swap that out for black. And a closer look at the two sides of the hopper More to come on this one. I also picked up one of the new M/T 65ft mill gons. I told myself I wasn't going to get one but we see how that worked out. I read in the UMTRR that that M/T recommends a 15" radius for this car. I'm happy to report that it ran just fine on my 11" and 12" radius curves. Really nice car. That's it for right now I guess. Hopefully over the next weekend or two, we'll see some of this finished up.......
I didn't know MT made 65' mill gons. I have a couple of Athearn's from a dozen years ago or so. They were cast metal bodies, so they should track well.
New body style. This is from the first release which was August '23 Here is the one Athearn one that I kept.
BNSF FAN does the MTL grain storage car look like you can just pop some MTL trucks on it? I know the kit doesn’t come with trucks, but I keep looking at it thinking that it would look good as a runner with some tucks and decals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ha, funny you asked that. After looking at the kit, I thought the same thing, I could get a second one and make a running car out of it. Since it's made from a regular M/T hopper, you would just need trucks, couplers, some weight, and decals and away you go! Wonder if anyone has beat us to it?
I happened across that statement last night when looking for the railcar on their website. So, is the 15" Rmin rating with the current stock trucks/sideplates, or the eventual ones they will release to correct the derailment problem?
That 15" minimum radius recommendation was noted when the car was first released. Not sure if that changes with the replacement trucks or not. Either way, kudos to M/T for jumping on this. They are first class all the way!
@MetraMan01 just to make sure, I tried it yesterday. M/T #1035 Barber Roller Bearing trucks was what I had handy to try with. The car feels a little light so would probably need some weight added.
Here's an update from this past weekend. I think my modeling skills are going down hill instead of getting better. That's not how it's supposed to work is it? Anyway, hope you all enjoy the update. Since I had it on the workbench and there was a flat up on the ready track, I made this shot just for fun After that, it was back to work. Made a good bit of progress on the kit so far Progress on the grain trailers. I see a touch up spot on one. They need safety stripes, the mud flaps and tail lights painted still. Then there is that pipe load. It's coming together. The gon for sure needs some weathering. These two loads were finished up Then I started on this one. I had not noticed before that the couplers on this car were green I actually thought I had the BN car finished but noticed when I put it back together that the load didn't set right and looks crooked so it will need to be redone. That's why I use tacky glue when installing these so I'm not completely hosed if this happens. That's about all from this past weekend other than the nap but no pictures of that.
Yep, from the factory. Doesn't show but the top for the coupler box is green too. I'd seen the colored coupler box before on a Santa Fe car but the first time I can recall seeing a colored coupler.
