In looking up various shots of IORY loco's trying to determine how many loco's wore a certain scheme, I found this very odd duck.... Excursion on the DT&I South Sub It is a high nose GP30. I hadn't seen such an animal before. Looks like an interesting kit bash project.
I operated that GP30 when the I&O first took over the GTW/DT&I line with a tie train. It had duel control stands. I'll have to dig up my photos.....
Here's a couple only a couple months old.... I was stopped at a red light on the CSX near Ottawa, OH.
Here is what I have come up with: IORY Locos with Red Stripe Scheme Num Model Color Notes 51 GP7 White over Red 53 GP7 White over Red Ex B&O 54 GP7 White over Red Ex B&O 55 GP7 White over Red Now LMMRR 55 61 GP9 White over Red Ex C&O 6067 62 GP9 White over Red Ex C&O 6018 63 GP9 White over Red Ex C&O 6178 65 GP9 White over Red 71 GP18 White over Red Being rebuilt as low nose. 81 GP30 White over Red Hi-Nose 82 GP30 White over Red Hi-Nose 83 GP30 White over Red 84 GP30 White over Red 86 GP30 Red over Red 87 GP30 Red over Red 251 GP35 White over Red Hi-Nose 252 GP35 White over Red Hi-Nose 4031 GP40 Red over Red Oklahoma Ex B&O 4033 GP40-3 Red over Red 4034 GP40-3 Red over Red 4035 GP40 Red over Red Texas 4036 GP40-2 Red over Red Local 4050 GP40-2 Red over Red Texas 6603 GP40 Red over Red Rebuilt as 4031 GP40-3 6740 GP40 Red over Red 6742 GP40 Red over Red 6755 GP40 Red over Red Rebuilt as 4034 GP40-3 6793 GP40 Red over Red Any corrections or additions are welcome. For those that don't know, the next decal project we are working on is to cover the paint scheme shown above by Jerry.
Decals? I would be interested in some if they are for sale and were to buy please.? My dad is from Indiana and the top High hood GP-30 would be nice to do. Rick
Not so odd... Thanks to Southern and N&W, most 60s diesels came in high-nose versions. (GP30s are one model that looks really good this way.)
SEE!!! I told you!!!! Jerry would know!!!! Jerry, Tony and I are starting an "Ohio/Indiana Area" decal set. Your input would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Here I was running the 81 in 1997 on a work train. This was when the I&O first took over and invested millions rebuilding the railroad from a 10mph roller coaster to a 50mph speed way.
We would run to the location, and then I would creep along at 1-2 mph while the operator several cars back unloaded the ties along the main. You can see some piles and his boom setting some down.
