This image is a lot closer. The sill and some of the ladders are about right. The door is different. Can't tell about the roof.

Man, freight cars have so many different details that change from car to car. I guess that is why I like passenger cars. Not so many different ones.

Yeah, I didn't think there would be two of the same type cars on the site, I should have looked closer.

I think the problem with the CB&Q cars is that many were built at Havelock, which I believe is a home shop(?). The ends are still clearly wrong, and the roof is most likely a diagonal panel type roof.

There is a list of Pullman Standard boxcars out there that will tell which, if any, CB&Q cars were built that way. This just isn't one of them.

Yeah, I'm actually just reading for amusement right now. OTOH, since you're new here, I did want to let you know that I've never seen anything like it either. Stick around, though, and welcome. :tb-biggrin:

    Chaya is correct here.

    1. It isn't "stupid" at all. MTL has a right to make and release any limited edition it chooses. There are many many limited editions in the world...some more valuable than others. Most brass is a limited edition...early N scale is limited...etc. etc. MTL has recently released grafitti versions as limited editions...so what? I really fail to see how you get "screwed" just because you might not have one of everything.

    2. Politics WAS injected in your post as was the language suggested. The title of your post WAS worded to get people to read it.

    3. It is always disappointing to me to find posts that are essentially whining and complaining from people who really need to get a grip and a life. I support Trainboard because I find many subscribers are genuinely interested in supporting others and in answering questions. This hobby is supposed to be fun...those of you who seem obsessed with finding fault, and who persist in complaining about nothing, detract from what is otherwise a valuable and pleasurable experience. Posts like many of these in this thread suggest to me that I might consider withholding support in the future.

MTL...please keep up the great job you are doing for the hobby...much appreciated!

    Steve Ervin

Yes, I like MT also, and since I'm strictly a prototype modeler I have no interest or opinion on the Presidental cars. If they help MT's bottom line and sales, then go for it!

They make a good quality product, their couplers and trucks are industry standard, and best of all they are made in the USA!

Since a few continue to ignore warnings to keep it civil, I'm afraid this will be closed very soon, so I want to post my findings first.

I sent MTL an e-mail and received a response.

Thanks for your feedback. As you can probably imagine, no matter what we do, there will be people who will want it done differently. If we produced a supplemental car like this and made it available for sale to everyone, we would have tons of people angry that we are lengthening the series by making up cars and that the series is already too long. Again, we will never make everyone happy.

I understand that people want a complete collection, but having all of the presidents really is a complete collection. This is a peripheral item. I hope you’ll try to take this in the spirit that we did it in; we are losing money on this project to offer something fun to the model railroader who is interested in it.

I agree with this 99%. The other 1% is that, in a collection as grand as the Presidents, that Oath car is going to be the cherry on top. No matter how long a series is, having a cherry to go with it would be a high priority in my book.

I have concluded from this, that the reason some are bitter is because this supplemental car is too related to the series, so much that, no matter what MTL says, I consider the Oath car part of the Presidential Series, and I'm sure many would agree. But hey, it's not my company, I just consider myself lucky to have such a company geared towards model railroading.

I thanked MTL for the response and their offerings and simply suggested for future offerings, separating the supplemental car design from the series would probably help calm the winds.

And I think we can leave it at that folks.

    Folks-

The title of any thread is of course intended to attract readers.

Had there been anything truly political, Staff would have shut it down, as that is not allowed. The current US President has hot marketing potential, and such a guess may just be correct. Broaching it in that fashion is nothing political.

Had there been truly unacceptable (profane) language, Staff would have edited such words, or deleted the post.

What was worse, were jabs at people with viewpoints not in line with your own. Words such as "ridiculous" or "stupid" are meant to belittle. They contribute nothing to any constructive conversation. Instead they serve to diminish it's value.

Your best course is to contact the manufacturer, and conduct a thoughtful conversation of your concerns.

    Thus we conclude this topic.
