Picked up a White LED replacement kit for my Atlas SD60M off eBay. This product is nice! Bright lights and lighted numberboards now . It even includes filter material to adjust the hue, depending on the users taste (I'm fine with unfiltered). It also took a little off the overall speed of the unit and now it's a better speed match with my Kato's, but probably too slow now for a lashup with other unmodified Atlas units. I wrote Brian, who makes these, and thanked him for a great item. He indicated interest is lacking and he may not continue to make 'em. I recommend giving these a try! There about 15.75 with "but it now". Search under "seller" and type: mg1942. Note- I got a SD50/60 series unit for my SD60M with high headlights. The SD60M units are intended more for the nose headlight units...I think (check it out). Russ PS I have no affiliation with this outfit. Just want to help-out the "little guy" with a great product [ 03 November 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]

I bought 5 of these for my Kato C30-7's, SD45's and an SD40. You're right, they do look good and if you want to buy a bunch, he'll work with you on the price. Very nice to deal with. I too have no affiliation, other than as a satisfied customer. Bill

Gordon

Hi Gordon, welcome to Trainboard. You can find Brian's auctions on eBay by searching on seller mg1942. Hope this helps Bill
On a related issue, Atlas new re-release of the GP 7 has white LED's for the lights also. I would expect that this will included in the parts dept and might fit other Atlas models. I posted a question to Paul Graf on the Atlas forum about it.
Brian offers three types of white LED retro kits For details see these eBay listings http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1656335840 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1656331256 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1656337717 eNjoy Don B
As I mentioned above, you would want a SD50/60 series unit for a high-headlight SD60M. The SD60M modules are intended more for a low headlight unit. Looks like the SD50/60 series modules are all taken for now (I got another one myself !). Brian says he's got to go out of town for a few days, but I'm sure more will come available later in the week. Russ
I have emailed Brian the following lets hope he takes us up on this invitation. "I'm an administrator on www.trainboard.com there are a lot of enquiries about your product. I am inviting you to join our forum (over 2000 members) you can see the topic about your kits at http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=9&t=001362 Regards Paul Cassar"
Hey guys. Thanks to my previous customers, that posted above, for their help/good words here, especially Russ. Also, thanks to one of the administrators, Paul Cassar, for the invite to join this forum. This has got to be the best I have seen (Out of all of the forums I have seen, not just RR forums). I don't want to make a sales pitch here as I know it is probably against the rules but, some asked how to get my units. I usually offer units for various locos on eBay (user: mg1942) but sales have been too slow to justify the listing fees so the listings may be a little sparse for a while. Just email me (briank1@charter.net) and I'll tell you what I have/do. I need to get off my butt and create a website/list as a company on this site but, until then you can contact me directly.
Hey Brian, if you worked at Optec Tschnologies in north Dallas a few years back, I may have done some of your projects for you. The Brian I knew there left them shortly after I retired. I still have some of those micro LEDs and detectors we experimented with, (the .060 dia. ones). Remember I worked under Bill and Bryce on mostly government black stuff?

Trainboard Yellow Pages By the way welcome to Trainboard Brian and thanks for the compliment about this site. You can also post photographs here providing they are on a server otherwise you can email me some pics of your products and I will post them right here.
Brian, Do you make these kits for Kato E units? How about Dash 9's? How well do they compare to the Kato bright LED?
It's been a while since I visited this site. I came across this thread on White LEDs, and was hoping I could find out more about them. I only have one loco with the white LED, but was hoping to change out some of my Kato dash-9s and my Atlas sd60s. I know you can get a replacement board with the white LEDs from Kato. Will there be much of a problem changing this board out? Also, is there something I can use for the Atlas sd60s? This product mentioned on this thread seems like the way to go, but I never did the E-Bay thing before. Any suggestions?
Hello Thomas, I started this thread and, yes, there are modules for the Atlas SD60 series locos. To install these, you have to be willing to separate the frame halves, remove the old board, adjust the motor contacts and install the new board(s). It is quite simple actually I just did this to my BNSF 9297 SD60M and also installed some fiber optic ditch lights too... came out awesome! I have not replaced any Kato modules as of yet. Brian, the manufacturer and seller of these, visits this forum occassionally and may contact you, but right now eBay is where these are being sold. Great way to break in to the eBay thing... Brian is trustworthy and prompt with shipment. Many of us here are avid eBay shoppers and will shop there before paying retail on things like locos, etc. Come on in! Russ
Thanks Tehachapifan, I just e-mailed Brian to inquire more about his product. My only reservation is working too in depth on something so small. Even though I consider myself mechanically inclined, I hate working on something I really like and possibly mess it up so that it's no longer usable.
