It's bright and early and the crews got the front handrails applied. Once these set good and tight I'll get on the left side handrails. The left side will need some modifications to match the GP60M handrails verses the GP60 design.
If you look at this photo, you can see right behind the cab that the GP60M only has one tall stanchion then the bend, while the GP60 has two tall stanchions and then the bend. I will use the LL handrails, cutting the railing at the last small stanchion then using the JnJ handrail kit, add the proper stanchions and bend new railing.
I have one out of five of my shells ready for paint. I'm super-detailing mine so I have far more holes to drill. I just have to order a paint booth for my airbrush from a hobby shop. I think I might need to have TMB Models make me some GP60B's before I order the six axle B's
Wow! Those look great! I missed what was done with the frames. What drive are those mounted on? Were the fuel tanks cut down? Also, did you swap out the dynamic brake housings with ones off the LL shell? I ask because the last photo shows more of a grid in the side screens whereas the cast JnJ shell just has more of a vertical pattern. Russ
"Russ, that GP60M is a brass import. I used it just for reference." Oops! I knew that! :embarassed: Russ
Today I finished the walkway handrails on the left side of the GP60M's. The JnJ set did not have the right size tall stanchion so I had to piece-mill the handrail.
My camera is still on manual focus till I get a new one so sorry about the quality of the shots. Here's a good side shot of the completed handrail. Hopifully it will hold up to careful handling, being close to the cab. If not, we'll try something else. It should be OK as long as William doesn't have a run-away on Cajon and derails the units.:rn-biggrin:
I started painting the left handrails also. After this dries, I will hit the bottoms with red, and paint the rear handrails and steps.
These are quickly nearing completion and then it will be time to test them out on some fast freights.
