Friday evening I received a call from Harry Grossman, the operations man of the Carl Sandburg College Model Train Show. Galesburg RR Days is on track and should be a great show. GE will once again have a display at the depot in downtown Galesburg. GE is planning on having a ES44DC for the public to walk through with GE employee's on hand to answer questions. Thank you General Electric  . Harry was hoping for the demonstator unit but that has not been confirmed as of yet. The model train show at the Carl Sandburg College has about 200 plus vendors signed up and many layouts and module groups on hand from Z to live steam. I will be giving two seminars on painting, one on Saturday and one on Sunday in the main seminar room. Bill Selleck and I will also have a display in the liabrary. Bill's N scale Galesburg CB&Q station will be there along with my CB&Q GP30 #974 also in N. This is the biggest train show in the Midwest as BNSF is the host railroad and the city of Galesburg celebrates it rich rail history from Thursday to Sunday. The dates this year are June 22nd to the 25th. The Model Train show is the 24th & 25th. Make plans to come, Galesburg is a great place to see the BNSF at work. If you plan on coming and want recomendations on hotels, resturants or railfan spots, feel free to e-mail me or contact me here at Trainboard. Here are some links if your interested. http://www.galesburgrailroaddays.org/ This site will help you with hotels and such, it will be updated in a few days for the 2006 show. http://www.billselleck.net/ Bill has not updated since last June but his website is highly recommended
Very cool. My family and I are planning to attend the show this year, which will be our first time. When I was looking to make reservations a month ago, I found most hotels already booked up that weekend. I did manage to find a Friday night, so we'll be there with the kids on Saturday!
I thought I was loosing my mind. I knew I posted to this thread. BNSF7173 created two posts in two places.... Yes, I'll have my camera and document what we see. You'll proabably have to remind me to get a photo album up and posted afterwards
chris bring some trains, i think we will have almost half of the gym for the n trak layout again this year.
Teaser Photo's Mopac good to see you, can't wait to see what your running this year. Here are some pictures for those who have not been to Galesburg RR Days. Peck Park is a great spot that Bill Selleck told me about. Two lines and plenty of other foamers to talk to. From Thirwell Bridge you can see the BNSF yard and the GE maintenance building. The bridge is wide enough to allow railfan vehicles to park on the wide shoulder.
At the model train show. Bill Bixler scratch built the CB&Q 1/48 (O) scale steam locomotive. It features a sound unit, realistic smoke system, bell and even the Engineer and Fireman are remotely operated to perform their task. The expresion on the peoples faces sums up the work Bill has done. He is now working on a UP Challengermg: Sorry for the poor quality this was my wifes cheap camera. Another shot of this great work of art. The date is June 1998 and Tina and I have been married only 18 hours. This was our honeymoon, and this was her idea! Now you know why I married her
Last few teazers, if you guys want I can do my juornal from last year when we get closer to the event. Santa Fe fans take note! 2005 and a nice clean GP35, begging to be modeled. Hmm I have a few of these shells in the shop... Parting shot from Peck Park. Jessica our Railfan Jeep just had to get herself into the shot. I swear she backed up while I was taking this shot, probably jealous that Tina and I were giving this GE six axle so much attention. That is all for now, more to come to entice you as the event gets closer.:teeth:
Well....if you guys will let me, I have a briefcase I carry my Kato Super Chief, and a 40 car modern day coal drag (with appropriate BNSF locos) I can run, my kids will get a kick out of running a train. Is the setup Digitrax (if so, I have my own throttles, if not I will have to ask to borrow an appropriate one).
chris they put the dcc on the blue line and leave the red and yellow analog. jim not quite sure what i am nringing may just be myself and the yard with very little to run, always seem to bring more than i need and then it just sits because there are some runtime hogs there.
Chris, If lodging is a problem, why not give the two motels in Monmouth, Il. (15 miles west) a call? Super 8 309.734.8558 Hawthorne Inn 309.734.0909 Take a look at galesburg_rails@yahoogroups.com I just posted a long message on the status of the Train Show. 47 vendors, from 14 stateswith 217 tables of goodies! Since I composed that message this afternoon (Saturday April 29) I have received two requests for a total of 20 additional tables. Harry M Grossman Producer, Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show
It's that time. I no sooner pressed the send key and I got a phone call from a vendor wanting four more tables for collectable toy trains. It was one of those "check will be in the mail monday" deals. This guy has been with us for many years so I know he is OK. It's amazing what happens when people remember that the table cost increases from $25.00 per table to $40.00 per table on May 1st! Harry M Grossman Producer, Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show
Hi all, Just a slight correction. The builder is "Howard" Bixler. He is in his late 80's and only shows the locomotive four times per year. A real gentleman. He and his wife make the long trip down from Chicagoland to be with us each year as he realizes the CSC train show is a charity event to benefit the College Scholarship Foundation. A note to those who want to see this masterpeice. Howard only shows on Sunday for religious reasons. Since Saturday is the busier day at the Show, many who attend on only the one day, never get to see this wonderful peice of workmanship. Harry M Grossman Producer, Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show
Hey Harry, I see you got here before me Anyway per your request... For all you BNSF fans and RR Day fans, Harry posted this in the Yahoo Groups for Galesburg RR Days:
I will be there as I always am. I live here in Galesburg. I think I will have to look you guys up at the train show. Hopefully this show will be better then the last few years. I was starting to think the festival may have run itself and would eventually die out. It nice to see a lot is planned for this year.
Looking forward in seeing you, when Harry asked me who Wig Wag was I was excited to say the least. So glad you can come, we'll talk!
No, No, No..... Wig Wag can't be there..... my wife will find out... this is like "don't cross the streams" ghostbusters bad. I'm doomed! Hey.... looking forward to seeing you again George, and now you can meet my family. We ought to figure out a little get together of us Trainboarders at the show. I'd still like to bring a train to run (maybe my little ones can run it). Does anyone know a contact for the NTRAK folks? Maybe I could get in touch with them.
