Holy cow, THAT is a load. Quite the cost saver for the manufacturer to make one lift and paint the thing after placing it on the flatcars.
An imaginative way to transport this big yellow wiener (for a yellow submarine?)... Two flats seem to carry half the load each, while the middle one is just a spacer. That's a lot of overspray on Conrail's flat cars... I can see the chief of car equipment turning beet red and throwing a wobbly over that one...
Window of opportunity opens, as an Alliance Terminal RR "Dual 45" shows the "Lone Pine Local" switching cars, SP Mojave yard.
The west SP LAPCX runs up the Saugus Line at Acton CA. Spine, 89' flats, and double stacks make up this train.
Another photo from the CN Surrey yard outside Vancouver, BC. September 2014. A couple of tank cars behind what looks to be an 80 foot flat car built for trailers. ?
NS30A this afternoon had a couple of cars which raised questions which I hope someone here can answer. First, does anyone know what the R1 on the flatcar refers to? Usually TTX class designations include the length of the car. Second, my Google-fu failed me on the RVRX reporting marks on the XP box.
