The 0 series has been re-run several times both by Kato and Tomix. There is even a model of the final run version with a banner on the nose. You can spend a lot of money on these. I have nearly all of the Shinkansen models, but the list just keeps getting longer and longer. Add in the test trains (Dr. Yellow) and you can go broke!

What radius will a Shinkansen go around willingly? My Cali Zephyr will go around my 12 3/8" without a problem.

Willingly? 12 3/8" (315mm) should have no problem. Of course, the larger the better for looks.

The basic "0" Series is one that's usually in stock or scheduled to be rerun. They also turn up on eBay from time to time.

CB&Q fans have been begging Kato to do an E5 for years.:tb-wink:

Kato officially states 315mm (12"), though most go around 11" without (too much) trouble. Most of Tomix's Shinkansen are made for their 280mm (11") curves. It should be noted that they look silly doing this not only because of their length and wheel base but also their speed. Without transition curves it looks like everyone on board is getting severe whiplash.

Kato is doing the correct E5. :bear-wink:

I'm looking forward to this Shinkansen. What a great looking train!

I'll keep that in mind then. I'd really like a Series 0, but like I said, I've spent my budget for a while!
I was surprised that my Tsubame and Asakaze don't look too terribly bad going around the curves I have. Not perfect, but not bad.

Not that this is something I actually have, but I just saw one of these recently listed on Ebay, and I thought that if I ever wanted a foreign prototype steamer, this would be it...

    Yea we have.

Thanks for sharing the photos, John. I don't have the ED75 or the EF66, myself. With the simple, clean lines, the ED75 always looked to me like a "no-fuss, get the job done" solid performer. Were you the one that found the pan shot of the ED75 framed by sakura?

On a side note, my inlaws in Tokyo are all safe following the devistating earthquake. Please keep the people in your prayers and thoughts.

I have this guy too. Probably the smoothest DC locomotive I've ever seen and in person it looks fantastic (your photo just doesn't do the shell color justice). I'm going to let Don figure out the DCC as it uses 2 seperate SMD based lightboards with a chunk of metal dividing it in the center. Microtrains 2004-1 couplers fit quiet well.

Yes, that was me. I love that photo!
I still need to work on the depth of field with my new camera. And, I need to get a second light to brighten up both sides of the scene.
I've been saving a lot of anime style fan art dealing with the disasters in Japan and urging people to donate to the Red Cross. I keep everyone in Japan in my thoughts.

Temp, the color is probably off because of the low lighting. One of the things I liked about the ED75 is the brick red color. And, it does run really smooth!

My EF66 is a nice runner also. I wasn't going put it in the too hard basket and not install a decoder straight away but it's too nice to leave sitting in the box. This Japanese website has a couple of Tomix DCC installations to use as a guide.

I ordered one of the Kyoto trams that I posted about way earlier in the thread. I might have gotten the last one as Hobby Search is now sold out of them. Lucky me!

Finally got around to photographing my Modemo Kyoto tram. Haven't run it yet, but I'll get around to it soon.

Any one have anything new about which they want to post? I have had a few deliveries recently but I haven't had a chance to photograph them. The E5 Hayabusa and the new Kato/Lemke TGV Thalys PBKA will be forthcoming when I get a chance to photograph them.
