I have the 10-418 as well and am trying to decide if it is worth it to buy this new set. Being able to use the decoders would be a big selling point to me.

Since it's been forever and a day that I last bought a steam loco, is there anything special that I should do to my C62 before I run it? Do I need to lube the side rods or anything?

It might be wrong but I just put it right on the layout. That's a good question for the group. I use LaBelle lubes - which one should I use for a Kato steam locomotive and at what points?

I just put my Kato locos straight on the layout, I think Kato recommends somewhere not lubricating until they are well run in.

I use La Belle but when I looked to see which one the bottle is so old the number has rubbed off.:tb-ooh:

I bet I have a bottle of Labelle oil somewhere that's probably turned to jelly by now.
The reason I asked is, when I was at Chuck's Saturday, he sold an IM Cab Forward and he told the customer to read the instructions on lubing the loco properly. Since it's been so long since I've owned a steam loco, I wanted to make sure I did things right.

I have 102 and 108. One is lighter than the other. Make sure you use the one that is plastic safe.

He sent mine on Monday, I better read the instructions when it gets here.

Got my C62 today. It's so delicate looking. I ran it around the layout a few times, which showed me that I need to clean the track again. And, I see it has traction tires. It's so tiny!

If it were true 1:160 instead of 1:150, it would be even smaller. [IMG]

Well, hopefully. I broke down and finally bought a Nikon D-SLR for myself.

Got my Tsubame in the mail today. WOW! Once I get the hang of my new camera, I'm gonna take a lot of photos. I might take it out of the case and just set it up behind my C62 so I can stare at it.

I see the area where the drumhead goes is empty. I assume that I can choose which train name to use?

There should be a sprue with a couple of drumheads, you can choose "Tsubame" or "Hato"

While it's not an up close and personal photo, here's my new Tsubame and C62 circling my layout. This is the first phot with my new D-SLR:

So that's where my tape measure got off to. :)

Let me add that I believe you can buy a package of other drumheads as well but I've never bothered.

Looks great (both train and layout)! Is that a standard HCD? What switches and radii curves are you using?

One of the biggest things that helped my photography was a good tripod. In my case it was/is a Silk 700 (gift) which is heavy as all get-out but solid as a rock. The other thing I started doing is since I don't have a good lighting set up and use a Sony P&S camera, I touch up the white balance in my photos with whatever image software comes with MS Office. It makes a big difference. The last thing I do, since the Sony's "shutter" button is stiff is use the timer so I am not jiggling the camera when I am making the shot. A remote works good for that, too.

If it is a Craftsman 30'er, it's mine. Charlie at work gave it to me as a wedding present 19 years ago and it has been a lot more useful than some of the other things we received. :)

It's a 30" x 80" HCD with Kato #6 switches and 12 3/8" radius curves. I still need to get the foam for the top of the door before everything is permanently mounted. I'm also going to move the fan and work light somewhere else! My apartment is fairly small, so there's not a whole lot of room (as you can tell).
I have a tripod for my Canon AE-1 that I hope works with my new Nikon. I also bought a daylight balanced flouresent light and fixture. I still have a lot to learn but it's going to be a LOT of fun learning it. Heck, my 20 year old son had to show me how to resize the image so I could upload it onto Trainboard!

Looks good, (train and layout). I have the add-on set as well but I most often run it as seven cars like yours as it's a more layout sized train. It also looks good with an EF58 on the point.

    New Shinkansen

    [IMG][IMG]

Just ordered a full set of the latest Shinkansen Hayabusa from Japan. It will be labeled the E5. It is going to be hard to find for a while as most dealers are now sold out. The consist will be 10 cars with the usual Kato power car configuration.

I saw at Hobby Search they're taking pre orders for the Series 0 Shinkansen. Oh, how I want! But, I think I've spent enough!
