Definitely another good choice! I run a PC car or two when I occasionally move the time period of my layout forward to the early 70's Chessie era. Runnign mostly stuff in various railroads pre-mergers paint with a dash or two of the new stuff (Chessie or PC or BN etc) thrown in for some flavor.
The PC was a huge railroad and therefore had an enormous fleet of cars that evaded repainting. Here's one found at Portage Jct., WI on 04/16/1987, eleven years into CR. .... and this one about 1975 in Barrington, IL on the eve of CR, built 04/1956.
"If you look long enough you will find a prototype for anything you want to do on your model railroad" I did say that. However, I wasn't the originator. I borrowed the original thought and shored it up a bit. I do like what I see going on here.
Unfortunately, it rained this weekend or I'd have taken an outdoor photo. In the pic it looks brighter green.. it actually has the slightest blue tint that gives it a unique look. I love it. The BN car I bought last week is a wee bit brighter and lighter green, but side by side, both cars look surprisingly well, together. They kinda compliment each other.
It was you that gave me the idea to mix in more color. I'm really glad I did. Haven't even opened any sections of my track to set things up and see how it'll all look, together, but I can already tell it's going to be quite nice. It's like @Hardcoaler said in a previous post about keeping his railway "bright and cheery". Good inspiration

Yep, Bluford Shops' rr history lists Conrail appearing in '76 with the notation: "Conrail launches taking over routes of PC+EL+LV+RDG+CNJ+L&HR+ P-RSL+and briefly, AA" I've become obsessed with that page, I spent about an hour there on a few different occasions. Even after the big mergers in the early 80s, there were many shortline spinoffs. IC&G probably held the record for spinoffs. There are several YouTube videos I've referenced for ideas. Some people filmed entire trains, not just the locomotives. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but you could very possibly find some of your photographed subjects on the road in footage ppl have. Though, it can be dizzying to watch, but you can most of the time see the road numbers. I'll post some good links when I get time.

That Bluford page is useful for sure. I also enjoy browsing through it. I surprise even myself with how much I enjoy learning about railroads in the past - even ones far afield from the ones I model.

Funny that you mentioned "Chessie" the other day, because this just arrived. Ordered it Thursday. I finally found a 40' at a good price. That blue is really deep blue.. so pretty. You know, I never knew what the silhouette was when I'd see it on a train. I always assumed it was either a railroad route or maybe outline of a state or region. Your second photo of the PC car, I see the built date.. is that another date over the small black patch to the right of it? The first # is 73. I'm noticing most of the models I'm getting show a built date and another later date somewhere on the car. Repainted or serviced date I assumed but the prefix of letters b4 the number is different on about every car.
I have the very same car. The blue really does pop. I can never seem to find B&O cars in Chessie paint, not 40' boxcars anyways. Well, not good quality one imo. I really need to get operating again and working on the layout (it's a "plywood pacific" right now). I got covid in early December and just didn't have the energy while I was getting over that, and since then have just been in a rut - I can't seem to get inspired. But I may be getting back into it soon - there was an article in this years Model Railroad Planning on the PRR that got me interested again.
