Exploring DCC vs DC on a small layout

    I am not sure the issue is really about which is the better investment, so much as it is about how much a person is willing to commit to model railroading now. Some people really do want to keep immediate costs very low, and I think for such people DC may make more sense. This is especially true for persons who are not comfortable installing decoders. A lot of plug and play decoders require a fair amount of fiddling, and a fair number of decoders get fried as persons learn how to do the fiddling. So, for someone who doesn't want to mess with decoder installation, DC may be a sensible approach.

    As I have said before, the most sensible thing to me is to have both DCC and DC capability.
