While I have to admit I prefer the GN and CP for visual aesthetics I have found non-railroad people here can't relate to them. Yes, they were "pretty' but I found greater interest / response to equipment with names such as: Bangor and Arrosstock, Boston and Maine, Main Central, Vermont Railways, and (ick), CSX. Women in general always like the "Chessie Kitten" and the more colorful bilboard reefers. While, yes, it is "my railroad" I am in search of a female partner who would enjoy the trains so it behoves me to cater to thier interests.
Seeing as how I lived between the Northern Pacific and the Milwaukee Road in both eastern and western MT as I grew up They are the natural choice for me. I also lived in Anaconda Mt for a couple of years so the Butte Anaconda and Pacific, BA&P, short line also holds an intrest also. Modeling Either of the last two in western Mt is difficult Due to the lack of Prototype equipment. But you do what ya can. Mostly just have fun!:tb-cool::tb-biggrin:
Me too. Bay Area boy.... SP, WP, SN, NCNG, Key System, AT&SF not so much. (I do kinda like the N&W in SW Va tho... nice mountains)
Louisville & Nashville here, with some Southern thrown in. So I'm Eastern obviously. Also have some CSX & R.J. Corman locomotives, considering getting something I can run behind 'em sometimes if I feel like seeing more modern trains.
Here it is in black and white. Satisfying a woman with trains is a tall order. Got to be a real difficult thing to do. Change girlfrieds and suddenly you have to change your roster. I say go Goth with your next GF... plain black & white... ATSF zebras, SP black widows for the western Goth chicks. Do NYC black schemes for the eastern Goth gals.
Well, I live West, and most of my favorite railroading is in Texas or pretty much the entire Rocky Mountain range give or take a few hundred miles. Huge into BN, MKT, and Santa Fe early on, along with MoPac, D&RGW, SP, Cotton Belt, Rock Island, et al. While I also have great interest in Chicago railroading, that would hardly tip the scales even considering the heavy influence of eastern roads in the area. I do have a few Eastern favs like the Susie-Q, the P&W, Amtrak's Northeast corridor operations, and Southern.
I voted for Western: I model Tacoma, so it is a pretty obvious choice. NP, GN, UP and Milwaukee Road. But lately I found a certain attraction to Florida Railroads. FEC, Seaboard, ACL: I guess it is their colorful paintjobs... (did I hear "gaudy"? Who in the world combines purple and silver on an locomotive) So maybe I will start a few modules (FREMO N) based on a few select locations in Florida.... And then maybe I will concentrate on the east side of Stampede Pass, Easton to Yakima... Cheers Dirk
I live in the east but like the west. It does help that my favorite which shall remain nameless runs into the southeast as far as Birmingham Alabama.
< deep rolling chuckle > Um, I'm a bit toooooooooo old for "Goth chicks". Hmmm, me and a , - Full stop - ... camera pans away to idylic scene on grassy knowl, picnic basket / blanket, birds, flowers um, er me a lovely woman and a view of - CP main line.
