Yep it's true. That is my story and I am sticking to it. On my way to work today, a voice in my head said "go to the hobby shop and look for a grain silo". Since I was running early, I replied "Ok!" Well, when I got to the hobby shop, the owner was opening box after box of the new Kato P42's right there on the counter! Now, I did find the silo kit I was looking for but the same voice said, "You can always get a grain silo...go for the P42!" "But the silo is only 10 bucks, the P42 is ten times that" I replied. Well the devil started speaking to the owner as well because he opened up one of them and told me to check it out. I did. Guess what happened? Yes, I now own a P42 in NEC colors! The good thing is that he only charged me 75 dollars for the single unit. I am much happier with the P42 ,but a bit more guilty at spending the money. At least I know that the devil too likes trains of quality! (Though he was responsible for some of my old Model Power equipment!!!) Russ
Hey Russ, Which hobby shop did you go to. I'm always looking to find another good LHS. The devil is always speaking to me. Thanks, Bob
Welcome to Trainboard Bob! I go to (and have been going to for the last 20 years or so) World of Trains here in Forest Hills Queens. They are very reasonable and usually have some good clearance stuff. Here is their site for more info: http://www.worldoftrains.com/ Happy Railroading! Russ
As a pastor I assure you that it was not the devil -- it was God. After all God is a model railroader, and an N-scaler! Isaiah says that he saw the Lord high and lifted up and "His train filled the temple". Jerry
I will be going to a model rail exhibition at Derby in a couple of weeks, so I think I will wear earplugs
Playing with N? A little voice is telling me he is playing with 1:1, seeing that he has every single engine that has been scrapped in his roundhouse...of course, that must be a pretty nice layout!
"The devil made me do it".......... that may be my wife's excuse when she hauls off & kicks me in the caboose! I may try to buy some N scale goodies when I go see my son graduate- when the missus finds a new locomotive, I'll try the "How the heck did THAT get there?!?!?" line.........
Hey Russ, The same Devil was surely talking to me today. I'm waiting on a pair of P42's in the Phase III scheme from BLW, but I went to Trainland today in Lynbrook and picked up a Phase IV. Reading all these posts about the P42's here and on the Atlas forum, I just couldn't wait. It's a beauty!
Must be the same voice that's telling me I need Atlas GP38s......undecorated.......soon.... to paint in Frisco colors.......to go with my Frisco caboose........ Nah, couldn't be the Devil- I hear Old Scratch is a BN fan (sorry, couldn't resist...........)
Bobcat - Glad to see that you got at least one in NEC colors. I'd like to get one in phase III as well and since you mentioned BLW, I saw them advertise one in custom NH paint! Friscobob - LOL! Good one. Devil is also telling me that the car sets are due out soon! Now all we need are some PH59i's and I will be completely broke. Russ
Russ, I haven't seen anything on BLW about doing a P42 in New Haven colors as of yet. They do an FA/FB in NH colors though. It would be nice though, the NH P42 is a smart looking engine.
Devil got to me too, picked up a two pack of the Phase IV units. Gonna have to renumber them though (wish Kato made an unnumbered) for service on the Adirondack and Ethan Allen, in the 800 series found here in Upstate NY and New England. These were originally P40s, but have since been upgraded to P42s.
Well the devil got me today I placed a deposit on a phase IV P42 myself. I have ordered the Phase IV 4 car set A from 4Nscale but after seeing the number on the locos i may have bought the P42 Phase IV NEC. What is the NEC version and what is the difference between it and the other phase IV? I'm concerned that the NEC won't be the same colour match for the 4 car set I have just ordered? The major difference is that the NEC has the words North East Corridor printed on the lower front of the loco, and the top of the loco is gray, rather than silver. HTH
Thanks Bill, Hmm the hobby shop only had that 1 NEC model left but they did have some 2 packs of thr standard phase IV. Looks as though I may be exchanging for the 2 pack. I gather AMTRAK runs a unit on either end?
Note for FriscoBob... Patrick McManus once wrote an article explaining how a young gun collector could increase the size of the collection under the watchful eye of the wife. Should work just as well for railroaders. Seems there's a "critical point" you have to reach. When wife quits saying "I don't see why you need 4 locomotives" and starts saying "I don't see why you need all those locomotives," you've got it made!
