    Air Powered Throw switches

dennissirrine, I noticed in one of your you tube videos you mention that air powered switches are more reliable outside, in which I totally agree with you. Air is more reliable than electric. I believe you mention your air powered swithces came from Oregon Coast Railroad if my memory seves me correct. I also have a Manufacturers dierectory that I started and was going to add this company to the diretory. When I did a google search, the site came up closed and out of buisness. Is it true that this place is out of buisness? Also another manufacturer called EZ Air Motion who also made air power for switch throws went out of buisness. I was wondering if there was any air power switch companies left that you could suggest for our outdoor G scalers to use.

Here is the link to my Manufacturers Directory > http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=121764

First of all, thanks for the welcomes from EMD trainman and SteamDonkey 74! This looks like a great informational site for the model railroad community.

Concerning the air switches; I purchased all of my air switch components from a company called California & Oregon Coast Railway. And the person who owned the company was named Stretch. Unfortunated, this upside down economy took a toll on Stretch, and he folded the whole thing about 8 months ago. It's really too bad, because he really had an incredible product!

The other company, EZ Air, has been out of business since 2003 or so. In fact, that is when Stretch started California & Oregon Coast, because he thought there was a need for air switches in the G Scale community.

dennissirrine, thanx for joining and we are glad to have you here. I'm glad you liked the site. Sometimes it's hard to compete with such sites as LSOL, sorry can't spell it out. Having such information such as the USA Trains registry is definately a attractive point of this site on the G scale section.

Thats a shame about the air powered switch products, it's too bad he couldn't sell his technology to a company such as Llagas Creek which has a variety of track products to try and keep up with the times. These days just selling one product won't pay the bills. Thats why in the G scale community manufacturers are also becoming the vendor. Charles Ro for example has USA Trains as a manufacturer and then runs Charles Ro Supply which sells all brand G scale items.

How many times do I sit and just stare in awe at your layout? I can't even keep track. Your layout is one of my top 3 favorite (The other 2 being the North Table Creek and Gopher Canyon Line... Okay DMiller, Keith, Phantom and David Winters are in a tie for 3rd place!). It's an honor to have you grace our side of the internet.

I appreciate all the kind remarks about my layout everyone. I have enjoyed every hot and sweat minute of creating this wonderful layout!

I have dreamed about putting a large G scale layout in my backyard ever since my construction days in the early 80's. Back then, I installed G gauge trains running on a shelf at door level height. I ran the trains thru three or four rooms of the house. The trains were a big hit, and a great tool in selling the homes very quickly. Everyone loved them. In fact, I still have one of the owners of a home I put trains in call me up every so often, trying to get ideas on what they can do to expand their layout. Pretty cool huh!

Anyway, it was during this dreaming I did back in the 80's that made me think: "If I ever had a large backyard, and enough money, I would take some time off and build this really large G gauge layout, with mountains, lakes, streams, lots of structures, and a large building to hold all of the trains. And so far, I have been very blessed to be able to have my dream come true.

Oh, by the way, I found out that Stretch from California and Oregon Coast is still doing the componets for the air switches under the name of Redi-Air. And he is only providing these componets thru dealers. I know this because I just got some air switch stuff the other day that I ordered four months ago. Oh, and that is another thing; Stretch is pretty slow in filling the orders. I have heard that he does the air switch business on the side, when he has time, after working his regular job at Wal-Mart.

If anyone is in the Phoenix area, and want to see the layout, please give me a call and come on by to visit. I would love to play trains with you! Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Dennis Sirrine, thanx for the open invite, that is very nice of you. You bet if I get out that way I will put you on my visit list for sure. I hope you liked our site so far, we are thankful to have you here.

It's sad to hear about companies such as California and East Coast going under, hard times are really affecting alot of people. Hopefully things turn around for stretch.
