    Hi
Nice looking layout! We both seem to be in the group that make changes on the fly while building the layout.

May I ask where you got the tow truck in picture # 5.

    Thanks

    Hi there,
thanks for the answers. It´s a lot of fun to build and make changes while I´m building......
BoxcabE50,thanks....most of the vehicles where collected when I had no idea to build a layout....Only buying what I have build in 1:25scale
    [IMG]

And I made some progress or better track changes to the warehouse and GERN Industries Limited area. Here is a drawing with Anyrail for that area
    [IMG]
After I´ve played with the current track arrangement for some time I wasn´t happy with that....so I ripped the track off and started from new....okay,I only have to pull out the tracknails....and moved the turnouts around the wood and finaly I found the way to go....
I added some length to the track in front of the loadingdock on the warehouse part.I have to cut the sheet for the new arrangement but that will be no problem....
To the back I´ll be add another smaller non railserved warehouse. As you could see I added the masonite for the backdrop....have to paint it some kind of blue and add some backdrope to both sides of the area...
A bigger change was done on the GERN industries complex because i added a third track for the mill building and seperated it from the to tracks for the elevator.I´ll build an open shed for the loading/unloading area for the hoppers. You could see where it will be placed in the picture below where the metal sheds are located.
The shed will be kitbashed/scratchbuild from Pikestuff parts and sheet...I´m thinking of removing the Walthers grain silo to another location and building an addon to the millbuilding from metal siding....will do a mockup from cardboard and show it here.....
So,that´s all for today. When I´m at home from work this evening I´ll finish tracklaying and will add some feeders....More will follow, soon.

Thank you for looking, any comments are very welcome.

    Cheers,Chris

Nice! Just a question... where the road crosses those five tracks in the upper left, I noticed that three are for industries, and two are mainline/siding tracks. Were you planning on a crossing signal for all 5 tracks? Or, just for the mainline/siding tracks and have cross bucks at the three industrial spurs? Thanks! JMS

I'm thinking he might do gates on the main and siding. Cross bucks with stop signs on the industry spurs. The latter being most likely on private property.

    Hi there,
It´s been a while since I posted some updates.I made a short break on the railroad because a bad back but now I´m getting better.I made some progress on it inspired by the comments here and somewhere else so I played around with tracks and buildings and got that.
So ripped out the old trackwork and started new.Bought a secondred wing mill kit and bashed it together. The Industrie spurs will be private properity with a fence around it etc. And here´s the beginning of the rebuild.
here´s the warehouse side reworked with some more space for truckparking etc.
You can see the printed out trackplan on the benchwork...I´ll adding some storage tanks and other stuff...Have tank car unloading rack and maybe will remove the warehouse and add a part of the superior paper kit instead of that...The whole complex will be Part of GERN Industry Ltd. Dawson Creek.I´ll add a fence around the industrie and the tracks will be inside of the area. The main will be secured with crossbucks and lights,no gates...
When I´m getting better I´ll finish trackwork and wire it and move some trains around...More will follow,soon....

    Happy Holidays,
    Cheers,Chris

    Hi there,
so It´s been almos a year since my last update on my layout.... There were a lot of changes and I´m in the progress of the last big change on the lower level.
So first let me show you the final trackplans of both levels.
    Lower Level
    [IMG]
    Upper Level
Trackwork is done and operational on the upper level to the helix and down to the lower level. On the lower level I have to glue down the tracks and connect them to the power buswire. I will show some pictues of the layout starting in the far left corner of the layout called Dawson Creek east on the layout plan.
Wright Food Service Ltd., possible team track to the front.
Elevators and CN interchange to the left
    [IMG]
    Prarie Coast Farm Supply
    [IMG]
    GERN Industries Limited
    [IMG]
    Diamond Fertilizer
    To be continued .........

    Hi there,
thanks for the comments. Here are the next updates from the walkaround. Last part ended with Diamond Fertilizer. Now we follow the tracks around the next corner and reaching Dawson Creek yard with Scott National Food Service, a small company next to the Dawson Creek Station and Freighthouse.
The yard has two tracks for storing cars, passing track and industrie or elevator spur. First in the row of elevators is the Cargill Ltd. Grain Elevator. The buildings are just a mockup for the structures I´ll be building for.
Fosters Feed & Seed Seed Plant (with the 2 boxcars)

Western Agri Grain Elevator ( currently called Pringles Factory)
Alberta Wheat Pool Elevator No. 3
    [IMG]

Here is a overview picture of the last two industries to see how the new track arrangement looks. The track to the right is the spur to the Northwestern Wood Preservers factory. The main is where the two Alcos are ideling .
Last industrie around the yard is Northwestern wood.
    First is Log/ Pulpwood unloading
    [IMG]
next is sawmill building (tan colour) and manufacturing plant with inbound delivery of other needed products like glue etc. (blue structure,2 tanks etc.)
and the last two buildings are warehouses for outbound plywood, particle board etc.. Later it was owned by Louisiana - Pacific Canada Ltd. and I think it still is.
The additional structure in the back is for truckloading. Those structures will be build form pikestuff kits. Track will go around the next corner and over Kiskatinaw Bridge and the farm on top of the helix and then to the lower level. Leaving the helix you´ll enter Chetwynd. This area is in it´s rebuilding stage. I moved the yardtracks around a curve. I´ll post some actual pictures in my next update.
    Thanks for looking,
    Regards,Chris

    Hi there,
so here is the third part of my layout update. It´s the part I´m working on for the last two weeks. I ripped out the old plywood, kork, track and turnouts etc and restarted. It´s the lower level and it has seen a few changes during the last year.
Here you see some of the old plywood with track removed . The next pictures are how it looks today. The radius of the main around the curve is 80cm. Length of the longest yardtrack is about 5,50 m. Turnouts are switched by BluePoint turnout controllers manually.
same location after redo. I stil have to glue the track and kork. Left are three tracks for the engine service, mainline and spur to Canfor lumber mill.
entering the yard from the South looking North.
    same spot looking South.
Last view looking South from the curve. Have to lay the track around the corner the way to the helix.
The next pictures are when you come around the next corner and following the spur to the Canfor Lumber Mill.
The foampieces on the background will be covered with logs to simulate large woodpiles.

I´ll post more progress on my layout when I have finished the yardarea. I´ll get back to operation, soon. I hope to make a video of a walk around the layout....
Thanks for looking, any comments, tips and ideas are very appreciated.

    Cheers,Chris

A walk around video would be great. "Flyover" type views really help those of us far away better understand what is happening.

Excellent thread I really enjoy what you have done with the buildings and industries, and track work. Wish I had taken the time to take more pictures than I did along the way. Those chip containers are priceless for silos boy they sure fit in. Now thats what I call using what you have, I like it!!

    Hi there,
thanks for the nice comments. I´ll make a "Flyover" video of the layout next week. I think I´ll then be ready with the Chetwynd yard and the connection to the old part of the layout. I´m still looking for a small cam for a cabview style trainvideo. I made some small work yesterday evening after work. I finshed tracks on the Northend of the yard. This evening I´ll make the connection to the old trackwork and mount the last bluepoint turnout controller to the last turnout. And I´ll finishall the electrical connections and made some tests. A friend of mine will visit me tomorrow evening and we will do a short op-sesion with a lot of testing....
    finished curve
    [IMG]
right track was finished after the photos were taken.

If all is working without any faults I will start painting the track and do some scenery work.

More progress will follow, soon. Thank you for looking. And any comments are very welcome.

    Regards,Chris

That's a nice, smooth arc to the curve of your yard. I have seen so many which almost have a 'kink' to them, instead of a gentle flow.

    Hi,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, I was busy on the layout and have made some more small changes during the last weeks. But this will be the next post.
First here are some pictures of the finished trackwork with some trains .
    First picture looking north
    [IMG]
    looking north to the curve
    [IMG]
and one blurry shot looking south. Station sits on the left. There will be some part of a freight house similar to the one at Dawson Creek.

After I have finished the yard I decided that I was in need for a bigger engine house and service area. The old one looks to small...It was more like on the prototype but I needed a place to store some engines. ;) So I swapped the Canfor mill and the engine service area and now both are looking better to me.
Overview shot of the engine facility. Mainline heading south is to the far left. The woodchip pile is a leftover of the Canfor mill....
Next pictures show the finished roof support beams in my enginehouse. I cut the walls for the inside small shop and storage room inside the buidling from left over roof pieces from Pikestuff kits. The storage room has a big door opening where I´ll hang some type of curtain like you often see in industrial buildings. It´s most clear material but looks yellow and dirty over the time.Don´t know how it is called. I´ll install a strair to the top of the rooms with a railing around that and more room for storage etc. I will install more supports between the I-beams I have mounted from more sheet material or I´ll use evergreen profiles for that. I will look what I have at home.

The track next to the engine house will end into a flat shop building with an boxcar inside. I have an old not needed Boxcar on hand and I´ll cut it down to sit inside the building ....the track left to it will be some sort of outside storing, maybe scraploading or something like that.

There are some other changes I´ll show you in my next post.
    Thanks for Looking,

    Regards,Chris
