Some of the original track was left, like this section on the left to the mine. Couple more sections to add that were bad and we can then test it out and make sure it works good, or it will be removed too.
Then...it's on to the new mains. :)

There still will be a siding here, and a lead going to all the industries in this town.

And last for now, the other side looking the opposite way to the track running on the backside of the layout.

Great stuff you guys. Wish I lived closer, I would love to pitch in. Hope to see it run at a show one day!
    Thanks

I have 4 days off for the holidays, so I am hoping to get some ballast down to help pitch a sale for Arizona Rock and Mineral ballast. :) Plus I want to work on my layout some. Honey do list is pretty long, but I am sure I can fit some modeling time in. :)

I have gotten several sections ballasted the last couple days. AR&M ballast goes a long way! Great stuff!
Will post some pictures later. :)

OK, here's the one end, with the siding added, and all the track joined and ballasted in the city scene. The road crossings have been completed with Blair Line wood crossings and AR&M asphalt.

Started coloring the mountain. The top will be covered with trees and the 'tuffs' like I am doing on my layout.

Also painted the bark grey that was shaved back to make room for the three lines.

The approach to the bridge on both side completed. Thought I had some 'coal' but didn't or I would have got the coal branch done too. Going to make that ballast darker with coal mixed in.

A leaking coal car in the yard today gave me enough fine coal cinders to start adding to the coal mine scene tonight. :)

Not a bad start for some 'free' material. :) The mine was scratchbuilt by a member out of wood, cardboard, and plastic pieces/parts many years ago.

I have the figures, mine car, and track coming for the 'Look into the Mine' scene that will fit into this opening.

I got to see this layout a few years back at a show in Gadsden. Glad to see it found a good home! I enjoyed seeing all the photos of your upgrades and renovations - good luck as you guys continue the process!

More work done on the layout during todays work session. Only a couple guys showed up, and we need to get more switches for the mainline, so we only added a line through a couple moduals that will not have any switches.
I also started adding some rock around the mountain I collected at work.

Once the 'trees' and other green things start getting added to the mountain it should start really looking good. :)
