On the return trip home we saw what appears to be a tank of some sort sitting on flat cars at a siding near Rullison, CO.

The last train catch today happened when we noticed the signal in front of us turn green.

A U turn later and we saw this U.P. pulling an evening coal load through Palisade, CO.

Were I living in Junction, I would have a problem this week- watch trains, or watch the Juco World Series. Our local JC (Grayson County, TX) is tearing up the field this week, and as of this writing is the only undefeated team in the tourney.

Always some good ball played in Junction this time of year............

May the best team win! I never have gotten into the JUCO thing. I guess I should go down and watch a game or two someday.

Good eye Hemi! I tried to zoom in but as you can tell the sun was not in my favor. In fact the D&RGW unit was MU'ed to a Cotton Belt unit and I was hoping to use it for this weeks photo contest. The units are marked U.P. 1350 and U.P. 1526.

I'm stuck in Colorado and seeing lots of train action but don't have time to photo them! I am on a job that is based in Montrose (thus I can see the Rio Grande units and the Cotton Belt unit) and drive right by the coal mines at Bowie and Somerset where lots of coalies are being loaded. I've snapped a few shots but won't know what they look like for a while yet. Oh well...getta see it anyway!!

This weekend started off with catching this beauty in the G.J. yard.

A U.P. dump truck was sitting in Palisade, CO.

U.P. was moving power back to G.J. when we caught these 3 engines in Palisade, CO.

My son and I headed towards DeBeque, CO to see if we could catch a train this afternoon and sure enough we caught up to an east bound coalie. We diverted from I-70 to US 6 and passed the train. We parked at the west cut at the beginning of the UNA siding and waited for the train to arrive.

I had the day off so my son and I did a little train hunting. First we went to an overlook in Rabbit Valley to see if we could catch a train or two in Ruby Canyon. As luck would have it we caught a westbound coal train right as we showed up. Unfortunately we were to late to get a tunnel shot.

As we paced a BNSF back into Grand Junction we saw an ex-Grande unit yielding on a siding. We opted to perform a U-turn and follow it for a bit.

    U.P. 1350 & 1526 sitting at a siding in G.J.

    U.P. 1350 & 1526 leaves the siding.

We managed to get ahead of the train and catch it at a crossing in Fruita, CO.

Very nice overhead views in Ruby Canyon! Tunnel shot? Have you posted one from this overlook?
That exhaust is really laying down behind D&RGW 3100; she must have been doing track speed of 40 or more!
    Thanks for sharing!
