We continued on Colorado River Rd and stopped at Catamount for a bathroom break, when Ben heard the crossing go off. I tried to make it across the bridge in time for a head on shot, to no avail, so had to settle on the going away shots. We jumped in the truck and hurried back to Burns to try to catch a panoramic shot but he musta been moving too fast. I decided to take a shot of the mountains anyway. -Mike
Unfortunately they are along the main. Mike and I caught more trains stopped and waiting this time than we caught actually moving. Don't sell yourself Mike. You have a great eye for photography! Besides you were willing to climb rocks and cross busy highways while I tended to take the easier shots. Ben
A few track shots while we waited for the BNSF to appear. Mike was kind enough to point me to another railfan site north of McCoy, CO. We didn't catch any train activity but the views were worth it. A Rio Grande shed? Ben
Just curious- What reporting marks is this car now carrying? Can't quite see clearly enough- Is it CNW? Or something close?
When blown up it is CNW 791244 and a MW marking is off to the right of that. I assume that the MW is a Maintenance of Way designation. Would this be covered ballast for emergency use by chance? Ben
That should be what MW indicates. I'd not be surprised the load is ballast. Possibly covered to keep it from getting damp and freezing in cold weather.
Thanks Ben You sir have an awesome eye as well, considering all your pics on here and on your FB. Hey, you did some rock climbing as well! -Mike
Crew change at Bond I think they put those lines and poles in our way on purpose! We waited around for a bit expecting them to take off, but they weren't having it. One last shot as we left and headed towards Trough Rd. -Mike
As we topped the hill and got a look down onto Yarmony, there was an EB sitting in the siding. Mid train help Radium is up next, and so is Ben's pics. -Mike
Your exactly correct, that way the ballast can be used anytime of year. These cars are staged in case of emergency track repair.
Next stop.... Radium. Here we caught another east bound U.P. parked on a siding. So I followed Mike up the steep Radium terrain to get an elevated view of Radium as well as the tunnel portal. Ben
After waiting for a few minutes we took a break from the U.P. action to take in the west bound CZ. Ben
