Great pictures! I just can't get used to seeing all those white "No Tresspassing" signs painted over. I just want to run up there and write D&RGW on all of them where it used to be. At least someone was too lazy to acually mark them U.P !
This morning I just missed UP 1460 switching out hoppers at the local scrap yard. I barely caught them coupling the loaded hopper to the tank car. And a look at some hoppers that the switching crew had set out on the wye. Ben
After waiting for a coal train today we proceeded to follow it. Here is a a view of UP 5810 bringing up the rear. As we approached Palisade, CO we noticed the train had started to slow down. Hoping to catch a meet I proceeded to the siding. Low and behold UP 6335 was waiting on the main for the east bound to enter the siding. Ben
I'm not sure. Last week they had cars loaded with ties sitting in the yard. They must be getting ready to do some tie replacement nearby. Ben
I was going to quote some pic's (from last page or 2) but there is just too many good ones to choose from..... Just wanted to say thanks Ben for including some excellent background scenery shots within those locos etc. It is great to see the different colouring & strata of the earth within different area's.Not to mention the local flora too ;-)
As I headed out to try to capture a shot for this week's photo contest I was lucky enough to catch an east bound coal train at Cameo. Some mid train power. And last but not least... Ben
I still smile thinking back that day when we nearly photographed each other at this location. You taking photos of the CZ and me on the CZ taking photos out the window. It would have been a priceless shot if we had been both on the same side of the CZ and got each other filming... :tb-cool: :tb-cool: :tb-cool: :tb-cool:
FYI - One of the empty U.P. coal trains derailed near Hotchkiss, CO the other day. http://www.kjct8.com/video/27140493/index.html http://www.krextv.com/news/around-the-region/Train-Derailment-Shuts-Down-Highway-117704023.html Ben
Hi Kevin, You travel south from here on US Highway 50 to Delta, CO, and then you head east on CO Highway 92. The distance is about 60 or so miles away from GJT. http://mapq.st/f2Srim Ben
Some more UP action from Western, CO. The UP has been doing a lot of MOW work in the west yard as well as preparing to do tie replacements on the Montrose Branch. My son and I headed down to walk the trail at Bridgeport to see if we could catch the MOW crews working. No one was working on that day but they have been in the area. Ben
