Ben, what luck! I'll see if I can put that in POTD on Monday. Any closer shots? I wonder if that unit has been hiding in Roseville all this time, or if by some freak of improbability it's just managed to avoid the patch kit until now. Those large spools look like fiber optic cable. Either Silverton is finally going to get connected by Qwest (oh no, they're not), or someone's laying down some extra bandwidth along the railroad, maybe? I wonder if the Glenwood Railroad Museum would have room for such an artifact, or if the Utah folks know about it. It may not be a big deal to some, given the state of the wagon, but that would be a beauty of a project for some group to restore and donate to GRM if they have the space. Wagons are handy things to have. Great find, Kevin! :tb-biggrin: That's proof that you never know where the Grande will turn up. It also makes sense that the wagon would have joint markings with the WP. Salt Lake City was where Gould stitched the two roads together.
Sorry Steve that was as close as I could get. Over the last year I have come across three of these units that have managed to escape the patching crew. Ben
UP 6968 leads an empty coal train through Palisade, CO. An empty coal train prepares to depart Grand Junction for the mines. Ben
Great shots, Ben! (as always!) :tb-cool: This one (above) is sure to set the UP purists on edge, Caterpillar yellow in place of Armour yellow? Perish the thought! :tb-tongue: For me, if it isn't Real Grime, it's barely railroading.
Thanks Steve! I tend to like Caterpillar yellow over Armour yellow. What will the purists think? Hmmm... Ben
As my wife and I headed home after our 3 day get away I suggested taking a different route home. Rather than taking I-70 all of the way we headed over Berthoud Pass. While passing through Tabernash, CO I made a Grande find. Ben
The last shot from this trip was of a MOW crew that had been setting new ties out near Burns, CO. Ben
Tunnel 38. Just east of Azure. The east switch of Azure is in the 4th photo down in that set. Tunnels 35-37 are deep in Gore Canyon inaccessible by road. Tunnel 39 and 40 are at the other end of the canyon, west of Azure.
Saw something on trainorders that the UP was planning to run a train west of Parkdale on the Tennessee Pass line to move some hoppers, anyone out there have any photos or information?
