Order 102 Jan. 19, 1970 - Beckley, West Virginia was the nearest "big" town by Prince, where the station is (and is still used as the Amtrak station for the Beckley area). There used to be a tower at Prince - NI Cabin.

Number 52 was an NW2 diesel. Number 1050 was an ALCO 2-8-2. Hersey is east of Reed City on the line that went between Saginaw and Ludington.
    Order 17 Oct. 5, 1955 - Engine 81 was a BL2.

Any idea about the station of "Raleigh?" Was it a tower? Train order office?

Beckley is in Raleigh County. Raleigh was a fairly typical coal mine town. Here's a link - it has some pictures that are interesting, like the company store there:

So Raleigh is/was actually an independent community? My noting it as I did, was info via that person I'd acquired the order from.

Moving right along here. I've been uploading these in alphabetical order. As after decades of collecting these, that's the easiest way to reference my flimsies.

Today, I've quickly run through the "R" category, for a reason. It will be noted in just a few...

    Meanwhile- St. Joseph, Michigan:

It's a slightly odd feeling for me, when I look at this, and the previous order. I've always thought of St.Joseph and St.Louis as being in Missouri!

OK. Here is what I was leading up to tonight. This order. It holds some good memories for me. No. I was never there. But when I see the dispatchers initials, the years run in reverse.

"EAW" was Edward A. Wright. "Ted" was a Canadian National Railways dispatcher. He lived in the city named on this flimsy. I never had the pleasure of meeting him face to face. But we corresponded for some years. A good old fashioned nice guy. Up beat. Always very helpful answering my questions. This example was one he gave to me. So this paper will always be special. Thank you, my friend!

I know what you mean. For years and years I would hear the dispatchers from Jacksonville, Florida over the scanner. Got to know their personalities, actually. One dispatcher in particular would ride along on some of the runs over the division up here, and he knew his area well. He even would go out to RailImages (the old one) and check out the picks I posted there. Miss hearing him out there!

Nice to see that depot standing. What is the portion behind, at right, of the platform? A baggage room? Something for trainmen?

    That coal tower looks lonely!

That's the baggage building in the front - the actual depot is farther behind - the depot is two stories high.
