Well, I am going through a major life changing event in my life, after 16 years of marriage, my wife and I have grown apart and we are separated, and planning to file for divorce.

She is moving out soon, and after my hectic work schedule for the week of Thanksgiving, I will be making big changes in the house.

Up first is my loft, there is a pair of walls that are L shaped without any windows, one is 13'3" and the other is 12'6". These walls (and the rest of the loft) will be repainted and the Playa Desnuda Branch will be brought inside of the house, and I plan to add a valance with lighting above it. I also have been in negotiations with my 15 year old kid, she will be painting the backdrop...the eventual plan is to run to downtown Laguna Borracho, a town with a loop for the Southern Pacific and street running for the Pacific Electric interurbans and city cars on the other wall.

But to keep me busy, I have another layout in the beginning stage...Arroyo Tortuga!

For many years, I have wanted to build a small, classic roundy round layout, and now, I have the switches on order. I have decided to build an N Scale version of the Turtle Creek, down to the ultra tight, nine inch radius radius PECO switches, and tight turns.

The layout is going to be a Pacific Electric line, and will be a DPM kitbash dream, including a curved warehouse similar to the Davies Warehouse in the Rat Hole.

I have tracked down an old Western Railcraft Pacific Electric steeple cab that I will power with a Tomix chassis for the power unit.

Sorry to hear of the impending divorce. Sounds like you are staying busy...which is a good thing. I like the plans for the Playa Desnuda Branch and expansion. I also like the plans for the new Turtle Creek.

Life goes on...been there done that.

I too, am sorry to hear this. I'm still waiting for my second divorce to be finalized, and how many hundred thousands I have to pay her. Divorce sucks, mine has been going on since Labor Day 2017!

As long as you at peace with things, then it is okay, right.

It sounds like the Playa Desnuda will be keeping you busy. Will be cool to see the changes once it moves inside.

Sorry to hear this but it sounds like it's the best for the both of you. I am happy to hear that you are going to move on and keep yourself busy with a new layout. Time to start a build thread for those of us that wish we can only start a new layout! :D

Best wishes and best of luck to you going forward!

Best wishes for the future John.

I think the main street in downtown Laguna Borracho will need a few bars. :D

Getting divorced was the hardest thing I ever went through, but also the best thing that ever happened to me. Lets see, if my high school Spanish still serves me... Arroyo Tortuga is Turtle Stream. Wait, I get it.

Climate controlled layout coming your way - now that's a huge plus. No more enjoying trains at 120 degrees during the summer!! (y)

    Why are divorces so expensive...

still sorry to hear that, I will be doing the same in a few years myself. We are still friends and staying together for the kids, but there is something that we both like that is the problem. Usually when a couple likes the same thing it’s good for the relationship, but not this thing... oh well.

Can’t wait to see the Turtle Creek come together. Also it will be nice to have the Playa Desnuda in the house in the warm. Trust me I hated working on my railroad in a cold shed.

Thinking about using 1x6's for benchwork for 2x4. Going deeper than normal for a storm drain....

    Mine took 3 years too.
I did learn one thing as a result; Divorce is so expensive because it's worth it!
    Good luck!

Mine was only two years to get done. But it cost way too much in fees and what I lost in financial value. It's not a level playing field. However, I did finally manage to get almost all my hobby stuff back! Yay.
