We had some representatives over in China this past week visiting our suppliers. A sample of the S2 with sound was available for testing, and the video was sent over to us. Now that all of the components are approved, the factory can proceed with production. First is getting the boards produced, which at this point have the longest lead time of all the parts. We are going to do our best to have them here before year end - especially since the second run is already announced in our catalog! The video can be found on our Facebook page or on YouTube here:
Excellent Paul. Without giving away any secrets, is the sound board an ESU design specifically for the S2 or a more generic for possible retrofit to other locos? I've been installing ESU Micro-Selects in other Atlas locos and I'm getting tired of grinding out body shells. Bob
?????!!!!! what am I missing? Paul, I thought the first run was being done in ATSF blue and yellow! Has there already been an announcement about a zebra striped version? Bruce
Oh wow, I got caught off guard. The first run is blue and yellow. No Santa Fe on 2nd run. Zebra stripes will have to wait. Sorry for the confusion.
The board is designed to fit into the S2, but will likely fit into other models as well. It is only slightly smaller than an existing ESU board, which as about 1/10th of a millimeter too large to fit in the available space. That is why there has been such a delay in getting the model to market.
no worries...I'll have to assume that there will be a run, SOON, in zebra stripe....I'll be in for more than one! Bruce
Thank you Paul for keeping us apprised, and thank you for taking on this prototype with DCC and sound no less! The ESU decoders are very very good and and i will be curious to see how you're handling the sound enclosure/baffle challenge in such a small loco. i have two undecs on order and intend to do the early zebra (see below), shouldn't be too difficult. If you do come out with the full zebra, I'm probably in for a couple more.... mr. wallet is getting nervous already... Thank you again, nice to see Atlas pushing the envelope. kind regards, Otto K.
Otto, that early zebra scheme looks fairly simple... sadly, I'm going to have to go 'the full zebra' for my era!...so I'm waiting...what is the photo date for that first pic?...that one has the standard Alco stack! Bruce
Just don't leave us waiting as long as Kato. Been waiting to see if they do a zebra stripe NW2 for seven years now. The videos look good, pulls well and sounds good.
