Before Concor put out a version of the 1947 Freedom Train, I did my own.
What follows is a "short" consist so it would fit on my module. I was seven years old and have been told that I saw this train in person. Could fool me. Or is my memory going.......

I am a new member here, and I run passenger trains! In fact, the reason I built my first layout was to run a much truncated version of the California Zephyr, a train I remember from my (ahem) youth. I currently have the Zephyr, and a five car consist of PRR heavyweights, pulled by a PRR 4-6-2 Pacific. I am currently trying to decide between the SP Daylight, the PRR Senator, or Erie Lackawanna...I have been offered a set of those 85' smoothside, my choice. I am pretty sure the Senator used GG-1's for motive power, and I can't find one in n scale. I am not sure what the EL used for their passenger trains in the 40's and 50's. The Daylight is attractive, but it appears that conCor nor longer has the Daylight steamer, only the wartime version w/o the side panels. [IMG]

I'm a daylight fan. There are still GS-4's out there for sale (new), just type in Con Cor GS-4 in google.com to find out which retailers still have them. There is even one on Ebay.

    Bookbear1,
    Hey,welcome. EL used E-8's & PA-1's for their "name" trains. GP7/9's RS2/3's were used on commuters :D
PS, I"ve got an extra set of PA-1's (Kato)

Well, of COURSE Concor still has Daylight liveried GS4's....silly me, I read at their website, "New 'Daylight' Scheme 4-8-4 GS-4
First Two Shipments in 2002 sold out quickly. The 3nd shipment arrived in Jan. 2003 and 85% sold out by the date of this posting (Jan. 20st 2002) We do not anticipate re-runing the Daylight version of the GS-4 again in 2003. So we maybe sold out by the time you read this. "

I just assumed that they were no longer available, esp. since a "pre-retirement" sale ad only lists the wartime version of the GS-4.

It all goes to show....never assume! <G>

Thanks for the more accurate information!
