Looks good. And as far as being the slowest modeler......I have been in the planning phase off and on since 2000!! Even my temp layout is on hold due to a lack of tools issue (need to solder in feeders....soldering iron died and with Christmas, car repairs, etc etc...the hobby is on hold for the moment). So, I would like at least a runner up as the world slowest modeler. Plaster of Paris, I used to use that on my old HO layout in the 80's. Worked good but always had to clean up a huge mess when I was done That bridge looks very good by the way. The scene is starting to come together. Keep us posted on your progress.
Dave: You've made some great progress. The scenery looks outstanding. I'm enjoying the progress photo's. Stay cool and run steam.....
I love that layout Dave. Seriously, I'll paint your backdrop if I end up living in Ohio in two years when the university lets me out. Here are some bridge pics from the loop, not the one you are modeling but similar. I didn't hike that far away from the loop when I was there. Great job on the bridge, looks like the real thing.
FD - Good to hear from you! I've also got that bridge on the layout - here's a shot from close to the same perspective. And if I haven't already done my backdrop - I'll definitely take you up on your offer! Alan - yep, that's the one! Looks like you were standing on the shoulder of Caliente-Bodfish Rd when you took your excellent pic! Man, I hope Athearn does that scheme next - they were all over Tehachapi in the mid 90's! Seeing your guys great winter/spring scenery shots almost make me want to change seasons - the seasons on Tehachapi are gorgeous. Matt - yes, Tehachapi is wonderfully curvy - I think I read somewhere that it is the curviest mainline in NA? It looks like a model railroad in real life!
Here's an update...a LA to Portland hotshot rounding the Caliente horseshoe curve. The toughest part of the descent is behind it, and the crew can notch it up to their crew change in Bakersfield in 20 minutes.
Curvier that the old Rio Grande??? It's gotta be close, anyhow! Excellent shot, Dave! I can almost hear the 645's whine.....
