Would it be possible to sell single cars here on TB? Follow the NMRA heritage model, with 1 or 2 cars sold per scale. Then offer sets of 3 or more on ebay. Loyal members of TB get something. The Zscalers have something to enjoy. The difficult part may be to see cars sold at a higher price on the Nscale Collector site. You could be working on another car to add to the fleet.

This might sound silly seeing how new I am and all. But why couldn't you just sell them instead?
Set a price for them and then maybe you could actually sell more then one or two here and there.

By auctioning them off you leave out people like me who don't have a credit card and can't bid on ebay etc.

    Just a thought.

I use personal checks for eBay purchases. I don't have nor use credit cards at all, they cost too much. Just look to see if checks are accepted, or ask the seller. Most of them will accept your personal check. You may have to wait 10 days for your check to clear before the seller ships to you, but so what?

Most of the auctions I've bid on also accept money orders for payment. No need for a credit card and no waiting for the check to clear, or worse yet having a check hanging in limbo for however long.

There is also the debit/check card. Works like a credit card. But carries no account fees.

Reward the loyal participants here at TB - not the collectors on the Bay. We should have first crack at them. Set a price - or take prepaid orders for future delivery. I think any supporter of this forum would be happy to shell out some cash. If someone orders or commits without prompt payment - they lose the car.

You know eBay isn't the only auction site. I'd have to do some digging but I've gotten e mails from sites that are smaller than eBay but are aimed at model railroaders. If you are going to auction on eBay, sell one a month. To many too often won't net a high return IMHO. Also as a fund raiser, why not sell decals to TB members who want to decal scales such as Z, S, O or G. Even public television offers tid bits for donations. Donate $20 get a set of decals of your scale preference. Donate $50 get an N scale car.

Wrong Scale for me, however I think ebay charges to high of a price in all their fees to make any decent money, it should be in house and like it was said, when we needed the money to keep this great site up and running the folks here stepped up to the plate and hit ball after ball after ball out of the park.

Just now catching up on topics. I skimmed the whole thread, so may have missed a few points. I think it comes down to how much energy people are willing to put into this effort, which is grand and can continue for a long while. In-house would probably require less effort, with less return. I personally don't like eBay, unless I score a G4 logic board for $30, rather than $200! But that's my personal problem. The person responsible for all the work of selling these should make the choice.

I like the decal set idea too, Greg! Available in all scales.

Looking back through this thread, there are well over a dozen people who have stated they want a car. Obviously, some TBers are going to be disappointed.

Isn't our priority to get the most $$ for TB/RI and maybe a little advertising, too? Then eBay is the probably the way to go rather than an in-house auction or fixed sale price on the Yellow
    Forum.

But for those of us that bid and get out-bid, or those that will not bid on eBay for whatever reasons... we'd still like a car wearing the TB colors traveling over our layouts. How about printing up lots of decals in all scales and offering them for a donation of a set amount. Or have TB offer them for sale on the Yellow Forum...(Tax guys: Is there any advantage or disadvantage to TB offering decals for a donation versus offering decals for sale?) The decal option lets everyone, not just N-scalers, get some neat cars on our layouts, and helps TB, too. It also lets TB tap into more than just 12 donations.

Hmmm...If 12 cars go for $100 each on eBay, that nets TB about $1200. If people wanted to buy TB decals for their scale for $15/set, I'd bet we have a demand for a lot more than 100 decal sets!!

:asl: Decals (in all scales) are on my list of to-do's, once I can find a job and can divert my enery to something else besides looking for employment

I think Ebay would bring the best exposure to the group.
But on the other hand would like to see the cars sold to members,I know I would and many other Nscalers here would like to have that car on there layouts, MAybe it would be a good idea to get them produce by advanced purchase and get orders going for them.
