I think an HO run can be done as well in the future :teeth:

I feel they should be put up for sale at a flat price. I know my limit is $25 per car and right now I can only afford 1.
I will not be bidding on eBay if it goes that way.

    How about this idea

Do Car#1 using one method and Car#2 using the other and see how it goes?

    Another thought:
Have a select few signed in marker by TrainBoard staff and sell those at a premium. I might pay as much as $50 for a car signed by Mike (the artist who designed them).

I would love one of these cars. I would prefer HO Scale as I would display it in my office. I do not go for the whole bidding thing, but if they were at a set price I could judge their value against my bank account and act accordingly.

 Neat spot for my very first TB post.

Going with eBay for the potentially higher returns from auctioning the cars and the possibility of increasing new member acquisition seems the clear choice, even though I doubt I would have the wherewithal to successfully win an auction. So long as the obstacles mentioned above by others can be overcome, it would be interesting to see what kind of "going price" would be established for the cars in this first run.

Hopefully an in-house sale or auction could be used to see the comparison between internal-only results and the eBay auction. Then perhaps a "sweet spot" of supply and demand would be "experimentally" established, from which it may be determined if this activity would be viable on a long-term basis for partially funding the website and expanding the membership base. If so, one would anticipate runs in multiple scales and car types utilizing both auction and set-price formats much more likelly to satisfy existing and new members who desire to own and run one or more of these cars.
Whatever approach is used, these cars are really cool and we gotta have 'em! (I hope I made some kind of sense here - just got back from a root canal, ouch).

To Bid or not to Bid!!

Well folks, I really think that the first line should be auctioned in house. Judguing by the everyday threads, N scale modelers are quite an enthusiastic group and would jump at the chance to acquire these cars. I do not hesitate to guess that they would be sold out in the shortest of time. The profits would be the same as that on E Bay, I'm sure, judging by the last round of donations we had to TB and RI. At least do it with this first edition.
As for the advertising of TB, I'm sure the word is spreading rapidly as we speak. I can't wait for an HO model to be produced.
    My two cents, Cheers all
P.S. Night Flyer, welcome to TB. Here you will find the greatest bunch of knowledgable, helpful and all round good people, enthusiastic and eager to help. Cheers.

A great big Thanks to all for the warm welcome! :teeth:

This place is just great. Frank discussion, differences of opinion, hashing out the details, examining the ramifications, yada yada yada :wink2: . . . but no matter where each of us may stand on the topic of funding for TrainBoard by offering this run of rolling stock, even a new guy like me gets a feeling of unswerving optimism that it will definitely work out with all the talent being applied.

Gee, Jim goes on a road trip to Las Cruces to buy special run TrainBoard cars at Fifer's to get in on supporting the TrainBoard site! Could that be a vision of the future (i hope, i hope, i hope)? Only time will tell, stay tuned. . . .:shade:

Ole' Jim had better hang an extra water bag on the bumper, grease up the old wagon and head out if he is goin' to get there in time! These cars are starting to roll, and nothing has even started yet! May have to catch 'em in mid air! :D

An early morning sunrise photo of a long string of these cars running out of wheat country toward the big Mills at Wichita would really make an unusual Calender shot!

That might be a revenue idea! It would keep TrainBoard exposed all year, serve a useful purpose, and bring in some profit also. Each month could have one of our engines on it, and I'll buy one if it has my AC-9 on September! Maybe a requirement would be to have one of the TB cars shown with our engine each month.

What do you think of that idea Jim?

    That's an interesting idea!

My vote goes for Ebay, but I have no real preference. I'll bid either way. I'd LOVE to have one!

I originally opted for an auction here on Trainboard. However, the more I think about it, maybe ebay is the way to go with these cars.

I doubt I will win one but I will sure try because those are great looking cars.

I don't mean to be materialistic here but as far as the Benefit of the trainboard is concerned E-bay would generate more income and more exposure.

If TrainBoard Members are willing to pay the premium price than they are allowed to own it.

The train board is looking to fund their site I know I don't have much room to talk since I haven't been able to submit a donation yet but I do know that the more they get the better they are.

I would love to get all of them for $50.00 and sell them on E-bay for $700.00 but that's Demonic.

I think Top Dollar for the car is the best way to sell.

In house is Limited to the Members where E-bay is World wide.

If Train Board members want to bid they will be informed where to go where E-bay members won't even know they exist.

How about we start suggesting way's to sell on E-bay Like (I know yawl can do better).

The Item up for bid was a Special Run Custom painted Car by NSL as a "thank you" Promotion.
These cars where never offered to the general public (Until Now), They where only given to Certain Members and staff of TrainBoard.com that Exceeded in the Expansion of the site.

TrainBoard.com Is a Model Train Forum that has been around for many years and has
been helping modelers and Hobbyist Trouble shoot problem and other sorts of problems.

This Item comes BNIB with only shelf where (at worst) as these where displayed all over the world.

I retained the Extra Cars (and more) through TrainBoard.com / RailImages.com Owners.

Bidder to actual Shipping charges. Insurance Optional.

!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said I hate to be the Materialistic one here but I would love to own a set but not if I screwed the Originator NSL, Train Board(Great Job),

It would be interesting to see if the verbiage that BNSFtL has suggested would get past the eBay censors. They already "remind" people that references to websites outside of eBay are not permitted as auction text is entered. "Oops, it looks like you put in a website."

It does seem to me that there is more anti-eBay sentiment here than I originally thought.
