I do almost all my weathering with cheap acrylics. I use several different shades of brown and orange for rust. I never actually keep track of the exact mixes, so no two rust spots are ever the same
Jim - The 8314 looks terrific!!! I've never used acrylics before -- what brands are available/where to get them/how do you use, and how do you apply it? I agree with Jerry, your rust looks great -- classic tunnel motor heat damage!
Lately I have been using MEC eye makeup for weathering. They have a line without mica sparkle in it that comes in earth tones and dark grays. It sticks better than chalk but is kind of expensive. However a little goes a long way. I weathered this switcher and the building in the background with it.
Dave, The sort I use are available in 2 oz. bottles at Wal-Mart, craft stores, etc. I usually thin mine with water and apply it with a fine brush or a cotton swab. I might do a quick tutorial as soon as I find something else to weather :embarassed:
U33C from a Kato U30C and John Claudino N Scale of Nevada upgrade kit. This is very old; I would guess about 10 years or more since the kit came out. Mine needs some work, but I like it. Good puller.
Joe Freeman is just the name of a location on my layout. It is really named after Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum, home of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Great engines, Steve4. A real favorite paint scheme of mine.
SP meet at Pryor West Here's train 9324 East headed by a couple of tunnel motors lashed up with a SD70M bringing a grain train down from the summit on my Cascade Route. Its just crossed the switch at the RR west end of Prior siding. In the hole on the siding is train 9361 west headed up by two tunnel motors and two CN SD70M's. On my railroad the 9/11/96 purchase was denied and now, with the CN getting into New Orleans, and witht them already "hooked up" in Mexico, the SP is looking into partnering up with the CN, and having a market area the virtually covers all of North America.
