    I lived near the race track for 10 years when I was a kid, and I don't think I ever got to see one of these.

    Neat! The Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western owns a few of these from CN. I caught a few my last trip to see my inlaws...

    I received this via E-mail this morning. I do not know who took the photo, but I thought I'd put it in here because it is truly interesting, and I thank whoever it was for taking the photo.

    The story goes:

    Railroad: Uncle Pete;
    Train type: Coal drag
    Location: Just outside of Sharon Springs, KS enroute to Salina, KS;
    Narration of event: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted off letting the truck support drop down and grind the top of the rail creating white hot molten metal droppings spewed down onto the rail. The alert crew noticed a small amount of smoke issuing from about half way in the train, and in compliance with FRA rules, the train was stopped immediately. The only thing is, it stopped on a long wooden trestle. The molten steel dripped down onto the creosote ties and started a fire. The fire spread along the trestle and then from coal laden car to car. This photo shows the result:

    Bill,
    Is that one of those, 'guess what happens next' pictures?

    I guess so slim .. I have one but it's very poor quality (washed out). It depicts everything down in the gully and can't see anything but flames and smoke!

    We all start somewhere! Note that some of us have been here since 2000/2001... I was a slow starter at first too.

    That's very true!!!!!!!

    At say 5 Post / Day and posting about 300 Days / Year would put a person at 9000 Posts after 6 years. That's basically how I got this point if you average things out.

    The way HEMI setup this topic it gets harder to post as your post count gets higher. Once you break the 10,000 Post mark life gets really interesting.

    For those at lower post counts there is allot of material out there to pick a choose from. Search RailImages for photos as well as other sites like my two sites for photo's to post. It's the searching to find that right photo showing the number that matches your post number that makes this a topic one of many to enjoy posting on here at TrainBoard.

    Darren and I are like 4-8-4 passenger engines, 80-inch drivers, 300 PSI boilers and 90MPH. Bill, you OTOH, are like a 2-truck shay, geared slow, for good pulling power. Both of us are making it to our destinations, just at different speeds! ;) [IMG]
